My gold crowntail got hurt. He has been in the same tank, a Hex 5 Eclipse from Marineland, almost since I got him last September. He is a good boy. He flares and spreads his tail and builds bubble nests. He has a good dispsition and comes over to say hi!
Saturday afternoon I found him laying on the bottom looking at me with hurt eyes. When I checked him, he had bloody tail fins and blood around one gill or side of his face. I changed his water right away and added extra Atison's Spa (IAL). I will put in a new filter media in the morning. Tonight he is up and around but still hurt and blooded. I can see a big chunk is out of his tail all the way to the base.
I just turned his heater back on. He has never got sucked into the intake even though he wraps his tail around everything, including the intake and the heater. The Eclipse really doesn't have that strong a filter suction.
I am not sure what hurt him. Since there appears to be a hurt place on his face, too, he couldn't have been chewing himself on his cheek, and I have never seen him do that.
Mainly I want to know if I should put PimaFix (diluted of course) in with the IAL? Atison's says not to add salt to the Spa preparation. I wondered if I should add PimaFix to the Spa.
I just want to help him heal. I hope he's not chewing himself. I also have another IAL extract preparation from BetterBetta, but the Atison's also has Aloe and vitamins. It says 5 mil to a litre. How much is that to 5 usg?
