they sey tht you should have atleast 10% of the tank volume in a sump. so therefore if the power fails the sump will not overflow.
Hope this helps Adam
the reason fluvals tubing is ribbed is so tha it can bend over the back ot the tank without kinking.
Filters that use straight tubing do not need to bend over the back - so if you put it on a fluval it might kink and reduce the flow.
But, i suppose if you play around with it , it might be ok...

do u think it will b ok if i starve it until it eats the pellets (high protein ones like the 1s in ur link) and make its died up mainly of this and then say twice a week give it prawns??
Cheers
heres how i did it:
output from 405 - connect some smooth tubing ( i used a piece of tetratec ex1200)
connect to one end of hydor 300w
on the other i connect another small peice (bout 4 inches) of tetratec hosing and then wrap some PTFE tape around it and slide the fatory finished end over the...
i would get the fluval 405 with it though s the FX5 is huge and wont fit in the cabinet - only just fits in on my vision 450. Unless you dont mind it sitting outside, however it can be noisy at times
Adam

Adam
ok , my aro is now eating prawns daily, i have offered some foating pellets, but he just ignores them . it easts about 3 prawns a day, is this ok ?? will it be ok eating just prawns? Thanks for any help
Adam
canisters are great , no need to drill the tank , the input and ouput just bend over the rim into the water. I run a fluval FX5 on my 100gall andi love it , it can handle tanks upto 400gal. Well recomended :good:
i agree with that , you will find that its hard to get the media into the new trays with the sponge size difference, and then you are not maturing the new medai, as t1 described above is the best method. Good luck :good:
