Has anyone used this combination? If so do I need to make ny mods such as changing hoses etc

thanx

what size hose do you have

12-16mm get the hydor 200w heater
16-22mm get the hydor 300w heater

its as simple as that

It's a 17mm hose. What concerns me is that the hose is ribbed and has factory fitted ends for the connectors. I'm guesing that cutting the hose would be a bad idea. I think I can use the existing outlet hose to the heater and put in some additional hosing between the heater and the bottom of the tank. I would have to measure the diameter of the outlet as being a fluval specific part they don't publish specs.

The bit I shoul have mentioned in my orignal post is the tank is a Venezia 350 which has holes in the bottom. So to swap over heaters I would have to drain the tank about halfway and turn off the filter. I was hoping that someone had done this on a simiar setup as this would not be a good time to discover that I had to dash off to LFS or hardware store because I had forgotton some important component or something didn't fit.

you cant put a hydor on ribbed hose you will have to get some kind of coverter then change the ribbed hose over to smooth hose

I was cosidering it aswell but i have the same problem with my fluval viscenza 180, they should of designed it so the intake could be lifted up like the outake part.

I have one hooked up to my 405, 5/8" inner dia 7/8" outer dia clear tubing from home depot from 405 to CO2 reactor, same tubing from reactor to hydor 301, fluval rubber connection on ribbed tubing from hydor to tank and spraybar. Used screw hose clamps to secure tubing. Works great, no issues with leaks or flow.

heres how i did it:

output from 405 - connect some smooth tubing ( i used a piece of tetratec ex1200)
connect to one end of hydor 300w
on the other i connect another small peice (bout 4 inches) of tetratec hosing and then wrap some PTFE tape around it and slide the fatory finished end over the hosing. I then secured it with a jubilee clip - but did not tighten it too much.

This was how i did it - works like a dream! :good:

Hope this helped and good luck

Adam

sounds like you have to slap dash it to make it work

their is no way in the world you would catch me putting tape on my filter

you just buy a hose cuppler to change from 1 type of hose to the other then a few jubblee clips job done

I have ordered a spare hose so I can figure it out without any risk. It looks like I may be able to use the original hose between the filter and heater as it already has a coupler to connect to the tank. If that works then I just need to get a smooth hose from the heater to the tank. Will let you know once it arrives.

I WOULD JUST GET A INLINE CONECTOR the fluval hose to the inline connector jubelee clips then smooth hose off the inline conector jubelee clips smooth hose from the inline connector to the hydor then smooth hose of the hydo to the tank

you can get the inline connectors from any good fish shop

Panic over - new hose arrived and it just works because the rubber connectors fit the heater perfectly. I'm going to replace the threaded hose clamps on the heater with jubilee clips just to be on the safe side so will be installing on the weekend as planned. Cost a few pounds extra for the fluval hose but now I have a hose (which I needed anyway) as well as peace of mind.

Done no problems. In the end I used about 3 inches of plain tubing between the heater output and the bottom of the tank. The original filter output hose goes into the heater. I did this in the middle of a 40% water change so no mess no leaks and the filter was only turned off for about 5 mins. :good:

So if anyone else has this combo it really is no sweat.
