My Eheim Ecco 2332 is starting to play up (pumps very little) ive cleaned it and put back together correctly. ive had the filter for 6+ years. and it hasent once been a problem.

the tank is around 80 litres. im planning to overstock the tank and will be a planted tank after summer. so want it to be capable of filtering it.

i like eheims and have always had them. ive found the Eheim Ecco 2334 for £54 delieverd. the Tetratec EX700 ive found for £60 delieved.

Eheim
for tanks upto 200 litre.
max flow rate 500lph.

tetra tec
for tank upto 250 litre
max flow rate 700lph.

im edging towards the eheim but have wanted to see what the tetratec is like. however the 700lph seems alot. (even the 500lph seems alot. however i know i can turn both down.)

which would you go for and why?

thanks
chris

I have an Eheim Ecco 2334 and a Tetratec EX1200 on my 260 litre tank and I find the Tetratec much better. It holds way more media and cleans the water much better than the Eheim. It also comes with a spray bar to spread the outlet flow. It is a tiny bit louder than the Eheim but both are very quiet so I don't find this a problem at all, just worth a mention.

Tetratec ex700 holds 3.24 l of media http://www.tetra.de/tetra/go/4254C016E57CC...1&lang_id=2

Ecco 2234 holds 2.4 liters of media and 2236 holds 3.2 liters of media.

for the money you're going to get better filtration from the Ex 700

In america tetratec is called Marineland but it's the same thing and it's what i voted for. Great filter!

thanks and thanks for the link very handy
.

tetratec ex700 is really great :)... never had the eheim, but the tetratec in my experience is flawless so far :)

thanks again

Did you try just replacing the impeller and shaft on your ecco? They ship parts really fast.

nope i havent changed the propeller. to be honest i think 6+ years form any filter is good, so im happy to change it and keep my current eheim ecco as a spare.

I've heard bad things about the Ecco.

Then again I've tried neither.

i have this one on my 80litre tank. does a good job but its got about 7 galaxy rasbora's/celestrial pearl danio's. i have another eheim ecco 2332 to help out oy my mbuna tank, i have to clean that out every other month due to the amount of rubbish it has caught.

good to know. its in my bedroom so aslong as its not to loud im not to botherd. does the tetratec com with valve to turn the waterflow down as 700lph ion a 80 litre tank is abit over the top? also im no0t to botherd with the spray bar etc as i will be getting glass lily pipes in the end.

thanks all

I sleep with my head ~1 meter from the filter lol... so I doubt noise will be a problem ;)...

I run it on full in a 100l tank, so even at full I think you'll be fine ;)

what sort of stocking do you have on the tank?

thanks
chris

the tank is overstocked and heavily planted... (2 platydoras costatus, 3 vietnamese loaches, 1 peckoltia sp. , 3 pearl gouramis, 2 SAE) and a lot of plants... ammonia = 0, nitrite = 0, nitrate = 10ppm or below... the filter and plants seem to do the job, fish are quite messy at times... I turn the spray bar against the side of the tank to reduce water flow.
