Where can I get cheap alternatives... do I actually even need them? I've heard they are so good but why are they?

Care to elaborate a bit more Mel, not sure what you mean exactly.

LOL it's a glass kit for an external that replace the intake and outlet and the outlet is shaped just like a lily flower

I'm sure George Farmer kicked off a thread on this very subject about 3 to 4 months ago....

Can I suggest a forum search then?

Cheers,

Andy

Q) Why do you want a lilly pipe?

Is it for aesthetic purposes? I think the JBL is made of a clearish grey plastic & may look quite ugly....

Q) That IS my question, do I want one? Are they better than any normal outlet? I don't use a spraybar. I rely on the outlet for a bit of surface agitation but I can always put my Hydor in for that. The lily pipe would outlet nearer the bottom than the top would it? I'm just looking for a bit of info on it.

I will search out George's thread too, cheers guys

a lily pipe outlets very close to the surface of the water, it creates a whirlpool effect, which is effective at aerating the water, with minimal surface disturbance, its also useful on planted tanks, because the whirlpool sucks in the proteins which gather on the surface of the water.
