I have just setup my tank with some fish but with the lack of knowledge about cycling. I purchase tank and fish at the same time. Then i see my water becoming couldy and my fish start behaving wired. so after lot googling and here on this forum people told me that frequent water change is gud then my fish become some gud. not totally so i start changing water twice a day then also it is not fine.

I am changing water from top 10-15% some time almost 50% water than pour new water. Now what I am looking is that pee and bad things from fish are still remain on the bottom surface of the tank.

So please help me for gud method to change water or what I am doing is correct

i would say changing the eater twice per day is a little much. Just stick to twice wekly and you will be fine

Milind,
Have you got any test kits? You will need atleast the ammonia and nitrITE (NO2) test kits to figure out what your tank is going through. When you add water to the tank, do you use any dechlorinator or water conditioner? Local water supply will almost always contain chlorine and sometimes chloramines that you need to nutralise before adding the water into your tank.
Also, what filter do you have and what size tank is it along with what fish?

The way I do water changes is to use a gravel vac or a syphon to syphon out all the crud from the gravel and corners and replace the water with conditioned dechlorinated water. However during cycling, removing the crud may slow it down as it is needed for ammonia buildup.

Have you red up on the "Nitrogen cycle"?

A water change is usually performed with a "gravel vacuum", a larger diameter clear tube that allows the gravel to swirl around and shake off its dirt. This is just attached to the type of tube you may already be using as a gravity siphon to get water from your tank down to a bucket or drain. Many here use a product called a "Python", which uses a sink faucet to help start the siphon and to refill the tank. You can search this forum for discussions of the Python.
