OK, shame.  Anyone know of a pond with a glass/perpex  window in it so you can view the fish from the side as well?  I have seen custom made Koi ponds but wondered if there was anything "off teh shelf"?

Hi,   I have been thinking of buying a large secand hand glass and building into a bank of earth and using it as pond so I can view from 3 sides and from the top.  Has anyone done this before and would the tank hold up to the extreme temperatures we have in the UK around -15 during teh winter...

chris348, Yes, that is possible to do if you want. andywg, No need to provide proof as it is a common fact that RO or RO/DI water with salt provides the correct balance of elements as found in natural saltwater. Just ask for a list of elements found in your tap water from your local water...

Sorry guys I have to disagree with you on this. Yes, fish can "survive" with high nitrates and all manor of other elements in water but that is hardly the point. If we are privileged enough to have these delicate marine animals then we have a responsibility in keeping them in the best possible...

No ideas on the stream as I do not have one but I would be interested to hear what you think of this filter once it has settled in. Can you tell me if you have found it noisy or deadly silent so far?

If you are serious about keeping marines and as you say money is not the problem, then have a plumber come round and fit an outside tap and buy an RO unit to go on it. You will not regret it and your livestock will love you for it. If you use tap water, I suspect you will be continually...

If the problem with your parents is that they will not allow you to have an RO unit in the house, you can buy a garden hose connector to fit the unit outside. Be very careful here as tap water is not normally used in marine tanks. Test your tap water to see how much phosphate and Nitrates it contains as I think you will be very surprised. Tap water is different all around the country but all if it contains all sorts of things not suitable for...

joecoral, you sum it up nicely, it is the impeller not trapped air that is makeing the noise and I am surprised how noisy they are! Thanks for all the help

Does anyone have this filter and if so, how have they found them? Are they are quiet as all the other Eheim external filters?

I have noticed this on my tank and I have put it down to overdosing the Nutrafin Aqua Plus water conditioner. I have now gone back to using the amount it recommends rather than adding a little more and the oily substance seems to have gone!

I have always used the Eheim auto feeder with no problems. In fact, I am off tomorrow for 5 days and I have just set it to feed my fish twice a day while I am away!

I have always used UPS's on my systems just to run the pump for the filteration system. It has saved me on a number of times.
