Since my fish don't let too much fall to the bottom I take a few flakes and put it in the outflow of my power filter. While the fish are going nutty over the food on the top the Khulis can munch the bottom stuff. Also dropping in wafers when dark is a good suggestion as well.

There are many good brands but I use AquaClear power filters and Visi-Therm heaters. Don't forget a thermometer. It's important to know the water is in the correct temperature range. I would also recommend a strip light and a few different types food so the fish get variety in their diet...

Would filter floss fit in your tetratec?

The small sponge does not have any carbon on it. Since the supplied media (sponge & filter pad) was too small, I cut an AquaClear sponge down and added filter floss to fit the space better. A while back when I suggested that the two units were the same, my comment was shot down in flames...

I can't say that I'm tired of any of my fish. I do however think about what my tanks would be like without a few fish since I'm limited to what combinations I can have due to compatibility.

I've heard of people in the summer filling empty 2 liter of soda pop with water and freezing it when the temp gets too hot. What about doing the opposite? Add hot water to the container and drop it in the tank along with the other suggestions given? :dunno:

My BGK would immediately come out of its tube when it "sensed" movement from the other fish when they were feeding. It would always come to the same spot at the top and I would hand feed it.

It's not ancient, but I have a 35 gallon (US) acrylic aquarium that is now 15 years old. What is the age of your oldest tank? I also have a 15 year old AquaClear power filter that I still use. Do you have any items that others consider past their prime but still work as new? :) Edit: spelling

I have used Visi-Therms for 15 years and have had no problems. However, like in MinionZer0's experience, good customer service can add a lot to someones brand loyalty. :cool:

I made a similar mistake with my heater. In my case, I thought I unplugged everything but forgot the heater was plugged in a different outlet . Crackle......KAPOW! :rip: Visi-Therm 150 I seem to be very good at learning things the hard way. This is one error that will never happen again...

In my 35 gallon I have a large collection of twisted mopani wood that gives a nice organic look and provides great cover for smaller fish.

One of my favorites is my ramshorn snail. I think its deliberate movement makes a nice contrast to the racing speed of the fish. So far it hasn't reproduced but I understand it may have to do to fact my tank isn't over-fed. Every once in a while I give it a piece of zucchini or lettuce to munch.

A food like TetraMin Tropical Crisps hold together longer than flake food.

From top to bottom I use: ------------- filter floss ------------- Biomax ------------- 1/2 sponge ------------- sponge ------------- I had to cut one of the sponges in half since two were too much for my combination.

I've been using Hikari's Micro Wafers since it came out and my fish go nutty over it. It floats for top-feeders and also works with mid-feeders if you swirl it in the water. What do you all think? :D

I switched from API Ammo Lock to Seachem Prime a year ago. Since Prime requires so little for 5 gallons (.5 ml), I asked the pharmacist if I could purchase a couple of syringes and he gave them to me like wendywc said. Don't be surprised by the funky smell of the conditioner. :S

Like others, I feed my fish a variety of food. When it comes to flake food though I usually buy Hikari Flake Tropical .

Have you looked at the Lifeguard Big Digital Temp Alert? I have the Lifeguard Little Time or Temp and have been very happy with the quality. :)
