I wouldn't worry about bristleworms really, they are a good part of the natural eco system in your tank and nothing to worry about unless they become HUGE, or you have a lot of them.
I have seen about 4 so far in my tank, usually at night where they half emerge from their rocks and forage for...
Hard to get good pics of the Clavularia in low light as they are small enough, but you should be able to see here how their yellow center looks under the blue lights
Not sure if it is big enough for clowns. Some say it is ok, some say it isn't.
I am actually more excited about corals than fish at the moment, which I never thought would be the case! My fiancee is dying to get fish though... lol
Cheers betta! Haven't really decided what fish yet, leaning towards a Bi-Color Blenny to start though. They seem pretty cool.
Any suggestions?
Zoa's and Rics will probably be the first corals, and then possibly some mushies and a sarcopyton maybe. Xenia a possibility too........so many choices! :D
Unfortunately...no. :(
It is just an example I got from Google. I only have 2 of them (that I can find) and it would be impossible to take a picture of them as they are really tiny. But hopefully they will grow into bigger specimens.
Noticed that the Boyu WG308 skimmer I installed is a little...
I am new to saltwater, but what I have learned so far is to make sure to research all aspects of it and maintain your testing/water change routine to as high a level as possible.
Also you mentioned that you wouldn't always do your water change, and that you got your water tested at the lfs...
lol.....thanks for the ID seffie! :P
The new moonlight LED's are pretty cool, although I think I will get another strip.
The yellow centre in my purple polyps flourese under it which looks really cool, although they close up soon afterwards :(
Installed the new blue LEDs and protein skimmer without any problems. Noticed a couple of different feather dusters (at least I think they are!) in the tank.
Their feathers are more fan shaped then normal feather dusters.
They are this shape:
And they are constantly rotating the fans clockwise...
Auto-Setting - ARGH!!
I hate full auto on my DSLR - it is in love with the flash! lol#
If you want to use any of the auto-settings on your camera, try the sports one. It is generally the best for tank shots IMO. (well on my camera anyway, as it rarely tries to use the flash when my main tank...
Hopefully the above settings I posted will help out a bit.
The night shots will be very difficult to get right because of the low light, you can turn up the ISO a bit for them - but the more you turn it up the more "noise" you will get on your pics - and this will get ugly especially if you...
Have you a tripod?
If so, turn off your circulation/pumps (you will need the coral to be still), set the ISO setting on the camera to 100 (reduce noise in the pics), use AV(AP) mode and set the aperture to about 10 for FTS or less (4.5) for close ups.
Try that and see how you get on. If there...
I found another weird live rock hitchhiker today. It is in a hole in the rock and is sort of yellow in colour and seems to have two small black holes at the front. It closes up a little when disturbed.
Any ideas?
The clubbing one knocks you out, and the spearing one dices you up. Sort of like a tag team.....
PS: The one in the LFS today was of the clubbing variety
Just back from LFS and they had a massive Mantis Shrimp. It was very active flying around the tank.
The guy said he ordered 3 of them and sold two of them already........must be someone with a species tank.
I hear that mantis shrimps like to crawl into your ear at night when you sleep............you ever get a wierd clicking in your ear? That's the shrimp burrowing into your skull.......
For me, in order of how long they take to develop the colour, Ammonia (5 mins), Nitrate (5 mins), Nitrite (2 mins), pH (30 seconds), Alk (30 seconds). My old Red Sea ammonia test used to have to develop for 15 minutes, which was a PITA! :P
I don't understand why they need to use so many different types of heads for screws and the like.
I have had to buy tonnes of various toolsets for all the different types of screws/bolts etc in my car, but to use hex bolts for a lighting fixture?!
My hermits have shed without necessarily changing shells. They usually change shells when they are too big for the old one, and sometimes they do it even when their current shell is fine. One of my hermits shed, remained in the same shell, about a week later decided to change shell and then 3...
To be honest, he is talking total crap & just trying to avoid having to replace the kits. I use some Red Sea kit and it isn't great, very hard to distinguish a lot of the results.
Get back on to him and say you ordered the Salifert ones, and they are the ones you want.
The results look ok to...
When I first started testing mine I was all over the place and it used to take me ages to get it done. But after not too long you sort of get a good routine going. They way I do it now is lay out the various test kit in order of how long it takes to develop the results, then fill up all the...
When my nitrites hit zero I am going to do the water change, wait 24 hours, test and then hopefully be ready to get some more snails.
Thinking of getting the following:
4 x Nass (I have more sand in this new setup than the last)
2 x Cerith
1 x Astraea
1 x Red Legged Reef Hermit
Which would give...
Well, my missing red legged hermit has suddenly appeared again - in a shiny new shell! :D :D
I have had a big diatom bloom overnight, so will need to get some more snails in there ASAP. I seem to be near the end of my mini cycle. Readings today
Nitrates: 10 (up from 5)
Nitrites: 0.05 (down...
hold up, you don't need to cancel what you have bought. But just take it slowly, at least you will have a lot of the equipment etc ready for when you do start. :)
