My neighborhood doesn't have natural gas and I don't have a generator. for winter outages I have a wood stove and battery powered air pumps. And the governor's phone number. For summer I will go solar as soon as battery prices drop somewhat, and I would like some rafters reinforced next time I have my roof done. They need it. I've been up there.

Have you ever used the Governor's phone number?

Today I was able to get the bulk of the reading and quizzes finished for one of my collage courses. Also almost finished finished an essay.
I also learned that my plant supplier is now able to offer cheaper overnight shipping services through UPS. That will save almost $60 a week.

I did some quick filter cleanings & getting prepped for our tax returns. Oh boy, my favorite season :( , always something new to deal with! This time it's SSI. I'm pretty sure I can figure it out but there will be crabbiness! Husband is on alert with a massage or wine & sympathy as needed :). He's good at sign here...but not too much more, lol. We each have our own specialties, mine are taxes, food, dishwashing & fish care. His are fish helping, bathroom cleaning, trash & dishwasher unloading. Huh? Who does those other things? It might be me doing more laundry & vacuuming but it all works out. He's become pretty good at grocery shopping & laundry folding since retirement. Teamwork!

I "directed" a kindergarten concert last night. I put "directed" in quotes because, as some of you know, one never knows exactly what is going to happen when one puts a bunch of six year olds on stage. We had a couple of, um, improvised moments last night, but overall things went off without a hitch, no injuries or tears, many smiles from both kids and parents. Finishing a kinder concert always feels a bit like stepping off a plane after a bumpy landing: That was kind of awesome, and I'm kind of glad it's over. ha ha

Elementary school concerts and plays are like taking an old bike to the top of a hill in thick fog, and launching. When you get to the bottom, it was never in doubt, but it's a ride. I think we can include science fairs in there too. In High School, the day before the Christmas break, and the day before summer break can be included. When they ended, I always savoured the wonder of still being alive.

When we had ice last year, all that was left in stores was a sand and salt mix. I pulled a leftover bag out and it was frozen solid. I put it in the fishroom and it thawed, but I think it's more sand than salt. When your de-icer is frozen...

I now have the joy of going out with my dog and collecting a urine sample from her. I can't tell if she has cut herself on all the jagged ice out there, or if she has an infection producing blood, so it's off to the vet.

I have a long handled ladle just for doggy collections.

I was successful, but now she's on antibiotics for 2 weeks. Before the ice, when the deep snow was powder, it probably brought her into too much contact when she went out.

So now, I'm sitting with the dog asleep on my toes, waiting for the timer on the oven, and listening to a ska band called the Calamatix. If I tap my feet with the beat, I'll wake her up. That's not a bad problem to have.

Today I tended to Linda. Her pain is severe, two cracked ribs and her head still has a small knot. After fixing her band the grands breakfast did water changes on two tanks, one with a good vacuuming. Dusted glass, washed the kitchen floor, and did some general cleaning. The two chitlins helped.

This afternoon took the grands outside and had a snowball fight after building forts. We then piled into the truck and picked up the two corner tanks and set them in place. I thought Linda told me she ordered 44-gallon tanks. They are 54 gallons but still fit the space set for them.

Next up, fix dinner. Have has tomato beef sauce simmering all afternoon. Will spread it over butter noodles with sliced beef on the side.

I am tired and it always amazes me how much Linda does.
