We have a "Wellness break" at work this afternoon, when instead of our regular staff meetings, we get an hour to choose from various wellness activities, from pickleball to jogging on the track to reading in the library. I chose "crafting." We're to bring our own craft materials. My "craft" will be processing sinew; I brought a rubber mallet, a pair of hand-forged scissors, and a few hanks of elk tendon. We'll see how that goes over. But it will be relaxing for me.

(I'm only doing that because I couldn't figure out how to get away with attaching my bow-making vice to one of the cafeteria tables...)

True, some have very tempting compositions.

I seen "deluxe" Laminated hard wood chairs in the thousands of dollars the copy. That where thick.

That would probably make incredible bow limbs. But I wouldn't want to get caught running out of somewhere with a piece of furniture in my hands 😁

It's a little like if you look at pickup leaf springs in your garage and wonder what kind of ballista you could make of it. loll.

Just celebrating an 85% on my exam and trying to figure out what I should stock my 29 gallon tank with
Hope the tank turns out beyond your expectations. :) I'm also in the process of building a new fish home. :)

Glad that you are doing well study wise. I didn't do all that well in school. I always passed tests but seldom bothered going to class. When I DID go to class I tended to be a bit disruptive; I was just bored out of my mind. Sigh, I was doing 2-3 variable algebraic equations in third grade. Ya, while I don't really think it means much, I have a 'genius level' IQ. IQ has nothing to do with how smart a person is. It just gives an idea as to how easily a person can learn. I have NEVER, even once, taken any kind of computer class yet have taught a couple. I am 100% self taught yet have 5 awards from Microsoft. IQ has nothing to do with how smart a person is. Did a high IQ help me get my Microsoft awards? Of course it did but not because I was automatically smart. Computers interested me and I decided to learn. What I have done with computers is nothing anyone could do. A high IQ helps with things but drive and desire are MUCH more of a factor.

Just a word of advice.... Never trust your teachers. To many teachers rely on what they learned decades before you are in their class. Don't take me wrong as the majority of these teachers mean well but are just not cureent.

Another %^%$%#$ snow and ice storm, with a bigger one expected Sunday. This part of winter can get to a person.

What can you do? I cranked the heat in the fishroom, in case the ice gets the electricity. The grid here is extremely stable, but those can always become famous last words. Then I used my power tools to build a new rack for a couple of tanks. I can't do the final assembly until I can move the tank that goes on it, and that'll be a week. It's full of well guarded Parananochromis fry. Still, it's in an IKEA form right now - pieces to be put together once the fry are properly trained by their parents.

It's -5 inside the room where I cut the wood and put things together, so that made me very efficient.

I have 3 foot by 2 foot oak table I do my fishroom "work" at. I wanted to clear floor space, so I have designed a rack that will have the tanks 48 inches off the ground, that the 30 inch tall table will partially slide under. I'll have good access to the work surface, and space at the back of it to have two shelves to put killie eggs on for incubation. It's like one of those raised beds with homework space under them, except it'll hold two 20 gallons and a 15.

That's my clever plan. I'm sitting here getting feeling back into my frozen fingers with 'American Woman' from the Guess Who on my random playlist. I don't usually listen to old music, but that one sounds fresh.

Winter came back. Had to heat chicken coop as chicks are just a bit too small for this kind of cold.

Because my well water has a consistent nitrate level of 30 ppm, each of my HOB filter boxes has a bag of resin that binds nitrate. The resin bags need to be recharged monthly in either a brine solution or 25% solution of bleach. Today is the recharging day. I chose to use a brine solution which is less caustic than the bleach.
