What are you doing today?

Deer season here goes to mid-January, so if I want to catch my older brother, I have to get him during the week....and even then, sometimes he's out there.

I went hunting once. Squirrel. I got bored and started shooting leaves off the trees. Guaranteed way to make sure I don't get anything LOL. I just can't sit there with a gun in my hand and not shoot something. I can fish all day and not catch a thing, but I don't have the patience for hunting.

My brother has gotten my oldest son into hunting. He took him out year before last and my son shot 2 deer in 1 weekend LOL. Of course, my brother was going on and on about how he "gave" them to my son LOL. What - ev - uh.

I'm interested in your bows- you use straight up old-timey bows just made of wood? Do you hunt well with them?
I've never tried tree-stand hunting. It does seem to take a lot of patience. Around here it's more spot-and-stalk, which seems a lot more fun to me, if not as productive. I shoot a lot of leaves off trees, too. It's great practice! 😆 You just have to be sure of what's behind the leaf. Bad things can happen if you don't give some thought to what's going to eventually stop your bullet or arrow.

I shoot wooden bows, except a fiberglass-backed recurve that I use for fishing. (I'm not above hunting with a rifle, either.) I started making my own bows during the pandemic lock-down. I'm not very good at it yet, but it's a lot of fun, and hunting with primitive gear keeps me humble. I have several bows in the pipeline right now, including a couple of sinew-backed, juniper heartwood bows that are going to be really beautiful if they don't break. So hopefully I'll have some pictures to share at some point.

What am I doing today ? I’m mad ! I’m as mad as I can be . I feed the stray cats in my neighborhood and one particular stray that I am trying to tame let me pet him today . I gave him the last can of the wet food that he relishes so much and came back in the house to throw the can away and when I looked outside what do I see but a DOG eating it and my cat gone ! I am gonna pelt that dog out and make a pair of gloves out of him .

I think we that we thaw our turkey(s) almost a week if its in the fridge, How long did Badger let it thaw?

I am new to that world... my boyfriend was SUPPOSED to teach me how to do what it does, but he ended up doing it all so I never did get my hands stinky!!!
My wife hates the smell of Hoppe's, so maybe you're not missing much. I love it. But I've been told I'm a bit odd...

Cooking facts that sound weird, but work amazingly

#1 Use mayonnaise instead of butter on your grilled cheese. Nothing else, not even pam spray on the pan. Its heavenly. I thought it was really weird, but trust me, it's awesome.

#2 Using nutmeg in your Mac and cheese.... Kinda weird, but oh my gosh it tastes amazing

Never tried nutmeg in mac&cheese but sounds interesting. Actually I use nutmeg in stroganoff. Old recipes will often call for it but new recipes don't.

I've been using mayo or miracle whip on grilled cheese for like forever. ;) To me it makes the bread almost like a sour dough taste.

I found an old miter saw in the garage that one of the previous owners of this house (and I suspect there have been many) was kind enough to leave for me. Just in time to finish some trim work over the new door and floors we put in last summer. Now I just have to learn to use the thing.

Or, try mayo sprinkled with Parmesan! Crunchy cheese crust on the outside, gooey cheese wonderfulness on the inside. Yum.

Never tried nutmeg in M&C. But possibly my all-time favorite comfort food for brainless, too-tired-to-cook-a-real-meal nights is mac and cheese with extra sharp cheddar, tuna and Tabasco sauce.

Hold the tuna and I’ll join you. 😎

Both sound delicious!! Count me in!

Had a rather sad experience a bit earlier tonight. There is a guy in my apartments that served in the Marines during some bad times in Honduras. I really don't know how severe but he suffered a head injury and also suffers from PTSD. On top of that he is also a heavy drinker likely, at least partially, due to the PTSD. Tonight I was outside and he came out suffering a crisis level bout of PTSD to the point that his whole body was shaking and he was crying. At one point I had to grab his arm to keep him from falling.

Long story made short I got him somewhat calmed down and convinced him to allow a cop to be called to help and get him to the local hospital from where he will probably be transferred to the Veteran's Admin hospital which is mainly a mental facility.

Now let's talk about the cop.... After it was all said and done I called the police department to report this cop but not in a bad way. The officer was REALLY awesome in how he handled the situation. He treated this man with total kindness and understanding always speaking softly and showing a lot of empathy. I called the police department to log a compliment on this officer's actions, not to complain.

I almost didn't post this but decided to do so more in relation to the cop than the guy with the issue. Cops tend to get a bad rap and there ARE always some bad apples in the bushel but that is true with any profession. My step father was a fireman and I knew just about all the cops in my home town and partied with a lot of them. Yes there are some bad cops but the vast majority are just people that have the guts to take on a job that at any time could cost their life to help and protect a community. So if you get pulled over for speeding or something don't get an attitude with the officer Just smile and say that you will try to do better in the future. After all it was you that messed up, not the cop. Actually you might be surprised at how many times this kind of positive attitude toward the cop will end up with you getting a warning instead of a ticket. ;)

Just don't ever lie to a cop. They are trained to read body language and pretty much know if you are or are not being honest. As an example of this I will offer my own personal experience... Must have been 9-10 years ago but I was pretty toasted and out of smokes. I headed to the local Walgreens to get more smokes and fully intended to take the less than 5-6 minute walk to the store. "Muscle memory" kicked in and I got in my car instead. Another customer in the store saw that I was obviously drunk and called the cops. When I left the store cops were waiting for me. The officer in charge in all this was Corporal Karen Rogers, a really good cop and person. Not really sure if she could have gotten me for a DUI but, at the least, I was open game for a minimum of public intoxication. She let me go saying that she would come back and check and if my car was not still in the parking lot she was going to come and get me. Later I called the police department requesting that she give me a call when she was able as I wanted to ask a question. Something like 30 minutes later she called and I asked her why she let me go. Her response was that she let me off because I didn't try to scam her and was totally honest.
