Out Of The Tidal Pool

great pics Colin. Dont think i would trust my silicone skills with 100+ kilos of water though.
Looks like a bit of a monster :drinks:

Oh ye of little faith.

I've just got the last panel (back pane) tacked, levelled and squared.
The whole thing is now banded and waiting to cure. All went smoothly with no hiccups. Within the next couple of days I can get her sealed up properly.

Looking like a start has been made. It's interesting to see how much your tank-building method varies from mine

All the best
Rabbut

when i did the baffles on my sump i eneded up with it all over the glass, in my hair, on the carpet and the walls. Then this just looks perfect :grr:

When tiling or sealing around the house, I improvise a tool similar to that with a sanded down credit card (old one by the way) works for that.

For all else I use my fingers, cheapest tool out!!

I would just not trust me having let it dry and got it everywhere I would need to, I would probably end up with leaks.

For all the smaller tanks I've built over the years, I've always used the "finger and soapy water" method.
This tank is gonna need a much wider fillet

Well the banding tapes are all off now and I have been throwing this tank around somewhat this morning. No creeks or cracks to be heard.

I've moved on to taping the inside of the tank in preparation for the eventual sealing.
I am going with a 10mm bead width on this tank as it's the biggest one in regards to width and depth that I have built thus far.
I have built six footers before for which I only used 8mm bead width.

Some of the tools employed to make the 10mm bead runs.

All done!

All I have to do now is clean the channels with some thinners and were good to go.

Looks really good, and its now moving along pretty well. :good:

A bit ago in someones thread you recommended a fitting for the return pipe from the sump where there was 3 outputs on it to direct the flow in 3 different directions.

From this description can you work out which part I am looking for, I wish to use one on the return pipe from my sump.

I think you are referring to an Oceans Motions closed loop system. They come in pretty expensive but they are excellent. The only trouble is now I'm more aware of running costs. The OM unit needs a sequence pump attached to it So were looking at around £300-£400 there alone and the wattage running the thing would negate it from my list. I'm going with one or two Vortech MP40's which again are initially pricey to buy but they have a much lower running cost. Coupled with lighting all these things add up.
I'm now using a twin overflow (2x40mm) and a single return (1x25mm)
I'll show you further when I get to the plumbing stage.
I think that's what you meant by your question Tiger.
