No seriously are you going to be taking pics of the actual tank build
I need tips :blush: {if you remember the boys have broken one of the supports on my 2ft cube and i need to replace it}

Wasn't planning to John, but I'm sure I could incorporate something like that if you wish to see the actual build.
The aquarium box section will be built first, then the Weir box construction and finally the bracing.
Its hoped that I'll be able to get something done this comming weekend

When I build a tank Ben, I build on the base. I place a small bead of silicone the edge of the ends and stick this to the base once I've the ends in situ I work on the front and back sticking these to the ends and base. The tank is now tacked and is checked for squareness. I make all my tanks with polished glass. I now run a small bead of silicone into the chamfers all the way around the tank. Once these cure, the tank is ready for the main internal silicone fillets.

Would love to see the whole build BigC - maybe I would then understand this sump business a bit better

Finally made a start on building the tank this morning.
Due to the Garage still being full of crap, I have taken up residence in the sitting room with my old Banjo and Piano.
Anyway please excuse odd picture angles and suchlike due to space limitations.

Picture337.jpg

The front is already in situ on this shot, I'm now working on the end panels. (I would normally start with the ends, but this stuffs bloomin heavy)
Notice the small tacking bead of silicone on the base section the same is applied to one edge of the end panel where it meets the front.

Picture338.jpg

All squared up and taped and support given due to lack of help (all family at work)

Picture341.jpg

End adhered to the front panel, squared and taped

Picture336.jpg

Wider angled shot

Picture339.jpg

Both end panes and the front is now tacked, awaiting the back panel, which I will fit this evening.

Well that's all for now, I will continue the build process with pictures as we progress.
Dont worry about the rug...No silicone was spilt in the making of this Aquarium.
I may have to move location for the final sealing process though due to silicone fumes (curing process)

Anyway Keep the pics coming Colin watching with interest .just out of curiosity how does a self build aquarium compare to factory one cost wise?

Oooooops yep i known that as well
What i should of said was if i where to go down the local glass shop and have the glass cut to size ect for my sump tank would it work out cheaper than just going to the lfs and buying a tank

If your building a sump from scratch it would be costly.
You would have to factor in silicone, glass etc, etc
I find that for the sump, I myself am just going to purchase one from AC Aquatics

Pretty reasonable prices and they deliver to Northern Ireland.
The construction of the stand is in hand, the engineer at work is fabricating me that to my specification from boxed iron.
I can then clad this with regular B&Q kitchen unit, panels, doors and handles
So things are ticking along nicely
