My Second Venture Into The Salty Side :)

reef crystals,

or red sea coral pro not the normal stuff thats not too good but the pro is what i use pretty good imo !

cant help with the rowaphos im afraid never used it only ever used polyfilter which is something to look into expensive but good :good:

how many pounds of sand should i look at, the base of the tank is 80cm*36cm would 40lb do it? or would 20lb be enough?

how does this sound for equipment

test kits NH3, NO2, NO3, PH, PO4
reef crystals
coral sand
aquascaping putty
deltec refractometer
hydor koralia 1 *2

and apart from live rock is their anything else i require?

will you need calcium drops?

im sorry if i sound like a noob ^^

bagu!

I'm going to use Reef Crystals :good:

Hawkfish are amazing looking. Even more so in person  I like true percs b/c of the black on them. More contrast. I'm going to try to get some picasso percula's. Like them even better  Snowcasso's would be cool if they don't have too much white, but are $400 a pair

Have any pics of the tank or stand or anything?

:)

As for the rowaphos, it's really too hard to tell how often it will need replacing. Some people, every 2-3 weeks, others every 1-2 months. Depends on hwo clean your input water is, how much you feed, and LOTS of other factors.

is there anything else i need?

I'd recomend a little air driven skimmer, but otherwise I think you are done for equipment, and the skimmer is just optional  What are you doing about heating?

Live Rock and fish mebe :p

All the best

im going to run two 100 watt heaters, and im going to get a digital temp probe.

the skimmer:

i will set the tank up and get it running and stocked with fish, then i will add a skimmer (looking at a TMC or a boyu) and then corals etc

The TMC's are more forgiving. We get quite a few Boyu's through with customers at work, enquireing about why they have died or asking how to set them up giving the poor instructions... Second hand Deltec, AquaMedic or Tunze skimmers would probibly be worth a look for the same money IMO :good:

If it were me, I'd out the extra cash out on the Tunze, but hey  Lots of people use and prefur both, so the choice realy is yours.

i cant see £10 hurting

would corals be okay without a skimmer whilst i save up for one? or is it best to get a skimmer first?

Depends which corals? ;) Most Softies and some LPS will be Ok without, but skimmers are highly recomended for SPS and a few LPS corals. There are work arounds though....
