Luc's First Planted Tank

Hi Kheng Hock, has been a while never see you here, I was wondering where were you... :)
Welcome back ya, it is happy to see your reply this morning. :)

Yeah the twigs I just got it from road side and it was dried properly by the road side. As you know the sun light we get here is strong as no where else. Haa... I wish to see some update for your tank too, especially the big one and if not mistaken you have bought a new tank too ya. Post some pics to share ya... :)

Thank you for the advice for the background, I wanted to have a blck background and what I could think of is the paper from stationery shop, I do not know there is one could get from LFS. Luckily you told me... :) BTW, how much does the background cost?

Haaa.... the drift wood and riccia, I am a bit confused and skeptical about this part as I am not too convinced that it looks nice. It reminds me of a jade in Buddha's palm. Haa...

Can't wait to see your tank, so pls don't let us wait too long ya. :)

Hello..

I've been (still am) busy with assignments, tests, a thesis and also a recent arrival at our home - a jack russell terrier pup. Hence the lack of time to post in the forum. *bows in apology*

The black background I bought it for RM 10 for the size of 48" x 18". I guess if you were to buy, it's should be cheaper than that.

I've done some major addition to my tanks; added two 4 feet tanks, one for oddballs and the other as a planted tank.
The other 2 29Gal tanks are now housing crayfish and feeder fish lol. The 10Gal as I've posted somewhere is now rather bare, with my gf now in charge of it. :p

I haven't had the time to seriously aquascape the new 4 feet planted. Perhaps when my schedule allows, I'll seriously look into it. Right now it just has two bogwood, very little glosso, some riccia and a windelov java fern. Very simple. I'll try to take some pictures and post it soon.

In the mean time, keep up the good work.

Here's Milo, the jack russell pup :D

Im looking to do the same sort of thing in my tank with twigs, did you do any preperation of the twigs at all or did you just put them straight in the tank ?

I picked the twigs from roadside and it was dried naturally by the sun. I just washed it and used it. But I have read somewhere, there is a proper way to prepare the twig before use it (forgot where I have read about this, sorry.)

Wow the puppy is so cute... :)
Sounds like you are quite busy with your assignments ya.
Suddenly you have got yourself so many tanks, can't wait to see some nice aquascapes from you. But don't rush, just enjoy the process and I know I will see one soon. :)

My internet down for few days, just got it fixed. :(

Missed the forum so much...

I have just taken a pic after a minor changed. I have shifted the twigs to the middle of the tank, closer to the drift wood, so that it won't have two focal points. :)

I will take some pics tonight as the pic below was taken in day time (with reflection).

Thank you RedShark. I do enjoy this forum a lot as you do. I also enjoy planting the tank... :)

Enjoy ya... ;)

Luc,

You seem to be able to grow some of the healthiest plants I have seen. When you take in to account the varieties with their different requirements, you are doing some excellent work.

Have you found any plants that aren`t successful in your tank?

Cheers, Dave.

Ohhh, happy to hear this... Thank you for the compliment. :)

What I can remember, I failed to grow weeping moss, the rest are alright.

I will go off for a week (Chinese New Year holidays), after back from holidays I will try java moss. I might remove the guppy and molly fry and replace with a group of neon tetra (not confirmed yet).

Now I will let the tank be whatever it is now, I will only add in new things after the break. :)

These are some pics as promised.

Not much changes overall, only shifted the twigs to the centre. I will be leaving to hometown on this Friday, so will be about a week off from the tank and from the net as well.

Thank you Richie. :)

I have just rearranged some of the twigs, I like the result.

Hi guys, finally I am back from the Chinese New Year holidays. So excited to come in to check on the latest forums. :)

Just checked out my tanks, all are alright except 3 adult molly died.

The planted tank is a bit "messy" haaa... as below, will "tidy" it up later tonight.

It looks really great, I like the twigs and the three splashes of red among the lovely greens.

Its still looking pretty lush despite the neglect :)

Sam

Thank you Sam. :)

I have done some changes yesterday, wish to share...

- Moved the drift wood to the most left of the tank and placed the twigs next to it.
- Removed the "Rotala Macrandra" on the right and group it with the existing small bunch in the middle of the tank.
- Added some root fertilizer to some plants as they look not so healthy after the neglect.
- Added a small pump to the left back corner to create some water movement.
- Trimmed some plants.
- Added 2 cherry shrimps (1 is carrying eggs).

Some pics as below...
