Luc's First Planted Tank

I have done the rescaping last night, spent two hours plus.

I've taken a pic straight after the rescaping, it looks blury...

IMGP1133.jpg

- Took out some watersprite.
- Tied moss on a drift wood, rearrange the two woods and put together became one.
- Reposition the tiger lotus.
- Added in more root fertilizers.
- Added in another green-leaf lotus (not sure the name yet).

The water is clear this morning. :)

Not sure is this setting good enough or not, but it does space out more space to plant some new plants. I will get some new plants for it... ;)

Feel free to comment if you have one... :)

The blue eyed fish you were asking about is a lampeye- aplocheilichthys macrophthalmus, it grows to about 4cms

Looks brilliant. Think there is a lot of depth there :good:

Thank you Fred, you always the first to give positive support... thank you very much.

Thank you fishstick, I have been searching for it for a while but have no clue on where to find for it. Finally I got the name, thank you very much... :)

Some update pics.

Night when all lights off except one on the right-side of the tank.

I will go to my LFS tomorrow to search for more plants to add in... :)

PLease comment on the twigs.

Lovely colours on those fish and plants. Was a good choice getting those Cherries.
Sticks look really natural.
Nice work.. again! :good:

Very nice looking tank.

How did you prepare the twigs for your tank?

What is the small leafed plant to the right of the picture with the Oto?

Fred, thank you again for the nice words. By having your support (in spending some time in reading this thread and posting positive comments), I gained the energy to learn and improve better. Thank you very much...

Thank you Dave Spencer.

The twigs I got it from the road side. It is dried under the sunlight for quite some time as all the leaf has dried off. I only clean it a bit and use it straight away. My shrimps & oto love to search for 'food' on the twigs. So far it is safe to be used... :)

Those plants are Bacopa Australis & Rotala Rotundifolia. They are not growing well as lack of fertilizer, I have just stucked some root fertilizers for it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update:

- I have replanted some plants (minor).
- Readjusted the drift wood.
- Added in few more guppy fry.

Thank you for the support and comments. Appreciated.

I am planning to take out one of the drift wood as I don't quite like the new layout.

There are places having flood in Malaysia, so the supply of plants are affected. I have been trying to get some additional plants for the tank but still not managed to get one yet. The tank has got not enough plants and algae started growing...

I am planning to rearrange the dwarf hair grass too... Might garther all to the front right corner.

I will post some updated pic soon. :)

Wow... Have been a while never post any update... Kept searching for plants but not able to find it till yesterday. Finally I have added some plants and took some pics.

Update:

- Removed a piece of drift wood with weeping moss (the moss not growing well in this tank).
- Trim some plants.
- Took out a bunch of hair grass and replanted it to the right front corner.
- Removed some water sprite and other plants, less plants caused some green dot algae growing on the glass and leaves.
- Added ball fertilizer.
- Removed some fishes and planning to remove the two big female molly and some guppy fry too.
- I have seen all the shrimps I have in there last night, they are all good. I am thinking of adding in some bee shrimps later.
- Removed a lighting of 11W on the left of the tank, will wait till got money then will get another T5 28W lighting.

These are some pics, the quality is poorer compared to the previous pics.

From time to time I will do some minor changes, so please feel free to comment and give suggestions... :)

One Question Luc

With your Riccia on the wood there. Is it a fresh start for these or was netting just hidden before? I assume they are new because I though the growth would spill over them and hide the netting.

Also how have you sealed the netting, underneth with cotton etc? melted the edges together. Quite interested because I love the look of Riccia and want some more verstile ways of using it.

I like your use of cobbles in nets that you can just pick up and put where you want.

Thank you for the reply Supercoley.

The riccia on wood and cobbles are all freshly started.

The way I did it was, I put some riccia on the cobble, covered with netting, then tied it with fish line. Once completed just position it at the place your want it to be.

It will take about 2 days to grow out of the net. it will cover the net once it grows up.

This tank is really coming along. Watch it when you increase to another 28W, be prepared to adjust the ferts and the maintenance regimen accordingly to ward off algae. Your pictures are pretty good, I'd be satisfied with them.

Keep up the good work.

Thank you for the reply lljma06.

My tank is getting some algae, green spot algae on the glass and some brown algae on the lotus leaves. I have taken out most of the guppy fry and replaced them with some molly fry in hoping that they could help to get rid of some algae.

The algae might be caused by sudden reduced of plants (I guess).

Attached here with some more pics to share. I have seen some of them taken pics this way and I just tried to take some too... :)

Need your OPINION.
--------------------------------------------

If you were me, what fish will you remove from this tank?

Existing fishes are, 2 albino cory, 1 oto, 2 flying fox, 6 cherry barb, 2 neon tetra, 2 lampeye, some guppy and molly fry.

Need your opinion. Thank you in advance.

Wow, I have been a while never post any updates already...

Here are some updates...

- I have shifted the tank from near to windows to againts a wall further from the windows.
- I have taken out most of the watersprite.
- Trimmed most of the plants.

Now the tank is kind of "empty". :)

I try not to add in new plants or do any rescaping until I come back from my Chinese New Year holidays (mid till end of February).

An updated pic as below.
