Luc's First Planted Tank

its its turning yellow u may need some iron which prevents yellow , and decaying leaves

I would suspect a lack of ferts of some sort or light. Remind us of what the ferts regime, substrate and lighting is?

Sam

Thank you guys for the reply.

Sam, I am using root fertilizer (ball like) for most of the taller plants, liquid fertilizer a drop a day. Pic as below:

IMGP1132.jpg

Substrate is some plain black tiny stone Or sand.

Lighting is 2 X 14W T5 tube and a small light on the right side of the tank.

Everything was alright for months as most of the pics shown... I was away for a week holidays recently and I found that the hair grass and glosso are not good after that.

Just wondering what causes this...

I have taken out some hair grass and planted it in my nano tank. After few times of water changes and fertilization, the hair grass looks better; while glosso is still not so good. Need longer time to get it into healthier look. :)

Looking great as usual.

Even after the so called neglect lol

I still think its beautiful.

Compliments to you Luc my friend.

Great work :)

Keep it up!

Richie

P.S I would love to see you work on a larger scale in future you would be able to make a very very beautiful scape ..... think all that space :)

I love the Harlequins, I'm not sure on what you have in there now, but I'd add more, up to about 10 Harlequins. Looks good, though.

EDIT: Looking again, the red plant directly behind the glosso looks a bit out of place to me. I think it might look better if it was all the way on the left, under the kind of brownish plant (what is that, by the way, it looks pretty cool).

Thank you Richie for the compliment, made me so happy. :)

I would love to go for a bigger tank in future too, but need some time and money before kicking up on one. The bigger area for planting is seducing me to try one soon... :)

Thank you n3ont3tra. I have had 9 harlequins in my tank now. They like to stay in group (sometimes will be a bit aggressive towards each other).

I caught what you meant about the red plant, I will try to reposition it soon. :)

The brownish plant .... mmm... I am not sure its name yet but I think it is green tiger lotus (let me know if I am wrong).

Updates:

- I have shifted the nano tank to the side of the 2-feet tank.
- Removed some hair grass in the middle of the tank and planted it in the nano tank, planted some Echinodorus Quadricostatus at the emptied space. I will slowly add in more of this plant for the front scaping.
- Shifted the twigs from the middle part to the back of the aquarium.
- Slight changing in the lighting, sharing the 2X14W T5 lighting with nano & 2-feet tanks, placed 2 small lighting at the right of the 2-feet tank. Will observe the progressment after changing...

I am waiting for the plants on the left middle part to grow up in covering the blue pipe at the back of the tank. Few pics below are taken 2 days back...

Good news!

I bought 2 red cherry shrimps recently, 1 of them is carrying eggs. It lost the eggs few days after staying in my tank, I thought it dropped the eggs due to stress. After about a week since no eggs, I found few shrimplets just now! Wow, this is so exciting as it is my first time in having some shrimplets in my tank...

I am thinking of letting the cute one growing up a bit first before doing any scaping works or plants trimming... :))

They are just too small and cute, do not have the skill to take a nice photo of them, hmm...

I am wondering will my fishes eat my shrimplets? I have Harlequins, lampeyes, neon tetras, oto, flying foxes, amano and cherry shrimps in the tank.

Are the shrimplets safe in there? I saw them swimming here and there, they even stood on the twigs which to me is very exposing and dangerous. But so far the fishes never borther to touch them yet...

But are they really safe?

With those fish they should be fine. I think if you had fish in there that activity ate that you'd have lost them ages ago. I know when I added some clowns to one of my tanks the snails had all gone by the next day. If its 'food' and they eat it, consider it history.

Thank you Sam, in a way I am quite agreed with you as I still found shrimplets in my tank till today and many times I saw the fishes swam pass the shrimplets but never bother to touch them or look at them at all. So, I have come out the conclusion, they still haven't knew the taste of a shrimp yet. Haaaa...

Quite enjoying in searching on the shrimplets in tank, see them eating, see them exploring the tank...

I am planning to go to a LFS later, want to check on a piece of small drift wood with moss (not sure what moss). I saw this in the LFS weeks ago, hopefully they still have it...

If I got it later, I will clean the tank a bit as the glass have some algae and need to do WC too. ;)

Went to LFS just now, not able to get what I wanted to buy...

Bought 2 pregnant red cherry shrimps and an oto for my nano tank, I have removed all the fishes in the nano and put in the new incomers...

I cleaned the glass of my 2-feet tank and plant a new plant in (not sure what plant is that). Forgot to change the water, mihgt do it tonight...

Never trim any of the plants in it... :)

Pic as below... taken in day time so the quality is not that nice... ;)

I still see my shrimplets in the tank and so far no fishes disturb them yet... the 2 new female RCS in the nano is to give me more shrimplets... :)

Have a good day guys... thank you for reading.

Went to LFS just now, bouth another two red cherry shrimps in hoping to get male. I chose 1 and the worker there chose 1. Hope at least one of them is male... :)

It is so hard to tell it is a male... :)

I did WC last night and trimmed some plants, these are some updated pics...
