Luc's First Planted Tank

Tis a lovely looking tank, no doubt about that :)

Sam

guys, so kind of you all. Thank you for the possitive comments. I hope I could do better in future, I am planning to rescape it after back from holidays. :)

what a beautiful looking tank you got.... Makes me wanna convert my african tank into a big planted tank....good job :good:

Thank you G_Sharky for the kind words. All the possitive comments will help me go further...

I am planning to do some changes to my tank later. I am thinking of remove the background wall paper and replace it with a black piece of paper. I will go to stationery shop later to search for one, but not sure what is good for the tank yet...

I also think of remove the drift wood so that can have more space to plant some plants. But if I really have removed the wood then must look for a new focus point.

I will get some new plants too...

I have the rough idea on what to do, but not sure how smooth can it go. :)

Wish me good luck guys...

I will post new pics once changes have done.

Good day guys.

Yeah I am back after the rescaping as told earlier.

I have taken down the background wall paper and let the white wall behind be the new background for the tank.

Thought of remove the drift wood and ended up it still in there, but this time it is placed vertically to save me some space and to build a new look for the tank.

I have taken out some plants and replanted some plants too.

Quite happy with the end result, but a bit skeptical with the positioning of the drift wood.

Please leave me a comment...

These are the pics, it was taken right after the rescaping, it is noon so can obviously see reflection on the glass (sorry).

Tonight I will take some better pics to share tomorrow. :)
Feel free to give me some suggestion or comment.

Wow.. I've been away for a while, and you've really done a great job on your tank Luc. :D
I personally like the twigs. Very nice. You just took some from the roadside and just dried
it in the sun? I think I'll try to do something like yours soon.

About the background, black would be nice. A piece of advice however. I used to use black
paper sold in stationery shops/departmental stores as background too. But then, as papers,
they do not do well with water lol. As papers go, it gets wrinkled up whenever it dries from
being wet. Repeat the process and the black paper won't be that nice through time. I also
noticed that the 'blackness' will fade in time. I have since switched to black wallpaper(same
material as the background you were using, but only difference is that it's all black), bought
from a LFS. It's much more expensive than paper, but, in the long run, it's worth it imo.

Also... the riccia on the wood looks like some tower of sorts. It reminds me of Barad-dur,
with the fishes as flying Nazgul.

The red of that lily is mad!

:)
Thank you for the reply, Sam.

Hi Kheng Hock, has been a while never see you here, I was wondering where were you... :)
Welcome back ya, it is happy to see your reply this morning. :)

Yeah the twigs I just got it from road side and it was dried properly by the road side. As you know the sun light we get here is strong as no where else. Haa... I wish to see some update for your tank too, especially the big one and if not mistaken you have bought a new tank too ya. Post some pics to share ya... :)

Thank you for the advice for the background, I wanted to have a blck background and what I could think of is the paper from stationery shop, I do not know there is one could get from LFS. Luckily you told me... :) BTW, how much does the background cost?

Haaa.... the drift wood and riccia, I am a bit confused and skeptical about this part as I am not too convinced that it looks nice. It reminds me of a jade in Buddha's palm. Haa...

Can't wait to see your tank, so pls don't let us wait too long ya. :)

Take care.

Hope you guys like it. :)

I have in-contact with an aquarist staying near to my place recently, he is offering me some free java moss. I will contact him and pick it up by this weekend if things go smooth.

I will buy a smaller drift wood, same type, same colour, half the size of my existing wood (hopefully can get one).

I would to position it closely next to the existing wood. Before putting it in I planned to tie the java moss on it.

By doing this, I believe the tank will have a clearer focus point (hopefully). :)

I like this tank, it is cheerful and bright! The water clarity looks superb. The cherry barbs are an excellent choice, you've got several very nice red males. I looked at your sig and I hope you plan on upping the tetra schools.

I love the downward slope of the front, it is very attractive. My only real criticism is the wood. I like the big chunk, and I like the twigs, but not in the same tank. I think it looks a little out of sinc. The different types of wood are giving the tank a very "right side" or "left side" look, forcing us too choose sides.

llj :)

Thank you llj, I should thank you for this superb comment as I could visualise the slope effect and the drift wood & twig effect. I have been bothering by the end result as "something" is not so right and you have really pointed out the thing that gave me that uneasy feeling. Can you give me some suggestions on what shall I do to make this better?

Thank you for the compliments too, regarding the neon tetra, I am not sure shall I add more of them as it might overstock the tank. Or else I might just take them out and change the fish stocking. Haa... just give me some time to sort it out. :)

The whole process is so excited and challenging, I really appreciate this message (llj) as it really open up my mind in visualising more things... Thank you again.

Im looking to do the same sort of thing in my tank with twigs, did you do any preperation of the twigs at all or did you just put them straight in the tank ?
