Barney's New Marine Journal - 150l Upgrade.

lol yeah I need to take some new ones and get some of the trumpet corals. Will probably take some over the next couple of days as I now have 2 weeks off work (and I need to clean the cyno off the sand!! :)).

Sorry to hear about your clown barney. I lost my male ages ago and got a little B&W one instead. They look cool together now. I was amazed at how well my femal took to the B&W one

Thanks, Im really gutted about that. For anyone that didn't see my other thread my smaller clown fish jumped out the tank through a tiny little gap in the egg crate :(

I should (if work leaves me alone for more than 5 minutes) start work building the stand for the frag tank and fuge tomorrow. Still not 100% sure how im going to do it. I have two 10g (ish) tanks and an orca 450 nano. Im tempted to put the orca 450 in there (connected up) and have it as a species tank for something a bit different. It is going to take up quite a bit of room though so might just have the two 10g tanks there instead. Going to have a play around tomorrow and see how it looks. Ideally I would have all three tanks connected to the display but that will take way too much space up (I have the space there but its going to look really ugly).

Barney whats in yer head concerning the two tanks, are they for a fuge/sump configuration
Give me a little gen on what your trying to achieve here M8
Regards

Basically I was going to build a stand next to my display tank with two layers.

The top layer would have 1 10g tank for a fuge, 1 10g tank for frags.
The middle layer would be my orca nano which would then flow down to the display tank.

However after thinking about it all day I thought that sounded like way to much hard work and would look really horrible in my living room. I have just finished building the stand framework for the fuge which is now only going to be a short term measure.

My long term plan now is to find a bigger predrilled (or cheap enough that it dont matter if I break it when drilling) tank with a sump. That way I get a bigger tank (always a good thing :) ) and I get a sump to put all the equipment in (without having to DIY a cabinet around it). I really want the extra tanks to do things with but I just cant live with having them all in my living room so 1 big tank with a well hidden sump is the way forward.

No timescale on when this will happen. Money is really tight at the moment so it all depends on when a suitable tank (for a suitable price) comes up somewhere nearby. In the short term the fuge will house the skimmer which is the only real reason I really need an extra tank on there anyway (all the rest was just added extras which I can live without).

Photos once I get the plumbing sorted.

If your going to do that. I would have the nano on top and the others behind doors so you can shut it up and have a nice living room when you want

Yeah thats how I was going to have it (well the nano was going to be below next to the display tank but everything else was going to be covered over). It really would have taken to much space though and I just knew I couldn't make something decent enough that I could bare to look at everyday :) (Im unfortunately a bit OCD about having things looking tidy :) ).

That sounds like it be awesome to have it all run off of one system....like a mini lfs setup :hyper:

(Im unfortunately a bit OCD about having things looking tidy :) ).
How about you could take a trip the U.S. Midwest and give my hubby some lessons on neat and tidy :shifty:
:good:

Cheers,
Kj

Still havent taken any photos but everything is a mess at the moment :) Still cant get the return from my fuge to work without tons of bubbles but I have hid the tubing behind the LR for now in the corner of the tank so they at least shouldnt do any damage. Need to mix up some more salt water tomorrow then I can get the fuge running properly.

Still need to cover over the stand and fuge but this is going to have to wait for the moment as I dont have time to go and buy the wood for it.

Did try and quickly upload a photo to here but seems the attachment function is borked.

Well a brief photo update. The tank itself aint looking great as I have knocked some of my GSP over (so its facing the back of the tank  ) and my bubble coral got annoyed with me messing in the tank and isnt as expanded as normal.

stand and fuge - Im going to be lazy and just leave it as it is for now. In the New Year im definitely planning on going for a 5ft tank with a sump so no point wasting money on this now.

Skimmer - I have disturbed the tank a lot today so doing a very wet skim to pull some of the crap out. Its doing a good job so far :)

Trumpet coral. I really wasnt sure if this would be ok under T5's, its at the bottom of the tank though and has expanded way more then it was in the shop.

Left hand side of the tank - the mushroom is fully expanded today and as you can see its pretty big. I had have three "accidental" frags of this which are doing well.

Right hand side of the tank. Cant see all the GSP at the moment as I knocked a chunk of it over so its facing the back of the tank. will fix tomorrow as I have messed with it enough for one day.

Looks cool man trumpet corals are fine anywhere in you tank with the lighting and max depth. Plus give them a month and soon youll see new heads popping up :good:.

like the fuge though hope it all gets going soon!
