Barney's New Marine Journal - 150l Upgrade.

If i get my new job in 3 months time then il be upgrading and looking for a couple of females to go with him. The guy at the fish shop was showing me pics of a trio they once had. He called the male a 'supermale' The set went for £80 they were amazing, never seen colouring like it.
If you are ever up near sheffield drop me a PM cos im 90% sure i could get you one

Cool, when (if) I ever get my new tank set up Im going to go for a set list of fish and ONLY get them no matter what it takes :) (lol yeah right, first time I walk in my LFS Im sure there will be something that catches my eye!)

Yeah it is a little to far. There are a few up nearer London which I will probably end up having to go to when I upgrade (world of fishes was very good when I went there ages ago).

Little update on the tank. I have cut the lights back from 10 hours to 8 hours and the cyano is dying off. In the space of just under a week it has gone from covering my whole substrate to covering about half of it. I think given another week it will be completely gone (WOOHOO!!!).

Definetly need to make a cover for the ATU float switch as my cleaner shrimp has decided it is a great place to hang out on

Corals are all doing really good still and suprisingly I think they are looking even better on 8 hours of light then they where on 10. I really need to move my toadstall though as it is massive. It is starting to grow out of the water and is completely covering over the GSP that is under it. Not sure where Im going to move it to just yet though. Might try and take a frag from it as well.

Damsels have settled in well, all fins and tails seem to have completely grown back and there has been very little aggression from any of the fish.

World of fishes barney, down in east grinstead? I go there.

Yeah thats the one. Have only been there once when I first started with marines and despite them telling me they where very low on stock I was pretty impressed with them. The guys there where really helpful to. Only problem is its a bit of a mission for me as it takes about an hour and a half to drive there.

Yer they are good, its my main LFS and does take me 25 mins to get there roughly.

Bought my lovely pink and lime green hammer there - service was great, really friendly and anice pub lunch was also had :good:

Seffie x

Good news about the Cyano. Just keep an eye on the tank though Barney, sometimes Cyano is replaced by hair algae

lol thanks for that cheery thought ski :p

Will keep a watch on it though, hopefully it wont be the case (would prefer the cyano).

Very small update. I havent been at home a great deal the last week or two so was only really able to chuck some food in twice a day and empty the skimmer. I noticed that my poor little scooter blenny was starting to look thinner so last night I gave him to a local reefer who has a much larger tank and with a ton of LR in it. Really sad to do it as he was my favorite but I just dont think it is possible to keep him well fed in this tank so its better this way.

Other then that everything else is doing ok. Cyano has not completely gone yet but is much better then it was (havent been able to do a water change for two weeks either which probably hasnt helped much). Looking out for a larger tank now so its just a matter of time until I find one that is local enough for a decent price.

Corals are all doing well, frags are growing really quickly and the various zoas are really starting to spread. The metalic GSP that I thought was confined to the one rock it was growing on has managed to get a foot hold on the rock below it and it spreading quickly across there now. Going to let it grow there for the moment and once its formed a decent mat I will frag it from there as I havent seen too much of this type of GSP around.

Hi Barney

That big mushroom coral on the left hand side of the Aquarium what kind is it never seen one like that before

Its a Rhodactis of some sort. Grew from a tiny little frag (the size of my little finger nail) that I picked up from my LFS. I have never seen them for sell locally either. It is very easy to frag though, I have 5 frags that are now about 1/2" across and it has split off a couple of new mushrooms in the display as well.

I dont really like mushrooms but this one is quiet pretty.
