Ammonia Levels High

Yup, you should be okay with your current stock.

But time will tell, as Cichlids may get more aggressive as they mature and get older.

first test results for the day

ammonia 2pmm
nitites 0pmm

having this new/extra filter is keeping my levels from rising

to high over night :good:

Nice!

Are you still using Ammolock?

-FHM

yes but trying to keep it down to 1/2 dosage and see how that goes

i asked my LFS about the ammolock messing up the cycle and he said

he used that while setting up cycles is his display tanks so ho swears by it

so i figured ill go half way and only use half the amount

What brand is the Ammolock?

Is it liquid or white flakes?

API liquid ammolock and im about to do my next levels after water change so ill keep you posted :good:

Okay, API Ammolock should be fine then.

But once things are all done, I would personally not use it, just because it would be irrelevant because the beneficial bacteria will be processing all of the ammonia.

i just did 2 waterchanges(took 60% out each time)
waited about 45mins-1hr in between changes
and my levels have only dropped ammonia 1pmm(2pmm 3hrs ago)
nitrites opmm still

is there something wrong or is it due to new filter

should i check again about 1-1&1/2hrs

Patience is the name of the game.

It is probably going to take 2 weeks before you start to see any NitrItes.

In the meantime, just keep up on the water changes, trying to get them down close to .25 ppm.

It will eventually come around

Well, at least your ammonia is down in the morning.

Try to do a water change right before bed, so that when you wake up the ammonia is not quite so high. :good:
