Thats not that bad, as 84 F is optimal for bacteria growth, but for Cichlids, you want the temp right around 78 F.

if i asked my lfs for some cycled substrate would that help
Substrate in a cycled tank, if that tank does not have an UGF, (under ground filter) is only going to have probably about 1% of beneficial bacteria, as most/99% of the bacteria live in the filter.i asked my lfs and he reckons if he had some spare it would do nothing anyway but i thought that using
cycled substrate was the the same as spliting cycled filter media correct me if im wrong
