I agree, Siamese Algae Eaters are excellent fish. They are the best at eating algae among any fish that I have kept before (and thats a lot), and they are fun to watch.
Interesting topic this one. As a scientist you would expect me to come out in favour of these genetically modified fish however they only give rise to lots of ethical questions. Albino and luecostic fish occur naturally without mans interference when 2 ordinary zebra danios breed. Glofish never...
be careful putting cardinals and rummy nose in with discus. The discus will view them as food and you might find them disappearing at night. if you are then make sure to put the tetras in first then the discus but i wouldnt recommend mixing them at all
I assume this is all well regulated and controlled but if the above comments are correct then why is it being allowed, surely there is a case for cruelty or neglect here.
Hello fellow fishkeepers,
I am just interested as to what people think of these new stores springing up all over the country in the UK. The fish are basically in tanks into which people place their feet and the fish eat the dead skin. This idea kind of horrifies me. Fish dont naturally eat...
Lemon tetras or X-ray tetras are a good choice, they have deeper bodies and wont be viewed as food by the angels, whereas neons and cardinals def would dissappear when ur angels fancy a nibble. I would avoid flame tetras and def silver tips and serpae as they are notorious fin nippers. Other...
I felt so sorry for poor lonesome George, all those years without another of his kind, brought a tear to my eye and also anger at man's disregard for animal life. As responsible fishkeepers we too should be doing our bit for conservation.
Can i dare suggest some pencil fish. I like beckford's pencil fish the males are always sparring and they have great colours. They also tend to be mid to top dwelling species and like to live in a shoal. I think they are a highly underrated fish.
Hi again,
Sorry I cant get a picture, but they have a short gold line rather than a spot just above the top of the bronze area into the head. They do lookm like a variaint of aeneus to me, Thanks
Hi,
my lfs are selling some corydoras eques (equus), they look similar to C.aenas but have a gold spot. Does anyone have any info on them, I think they may be quite rare,
Thanks
I have just bought a pseudocanthus pleco with a leopard spot body and the red tail. Can u tell me whether this guy is a algae eater, bloodworm eater or both?
I have seen the new Arcadia Arc Pod lights and was wondering if anyone has these and if they are any good? Also has anyone got the Hydor ario colour light air pumps and do they produce good light, Thanks
Rainbows are shoaling fish in a loose kind of way and are better kept as larger groups of maybe one or two species. The neon dwarf are beautiful fish and I would definitely recommend a nice shoal of them, you should also try to get a mixture of males and females so that the males show their best...
I acquired some of this plant recently and it has grown extremely quickly reaching the top of the tank within days. I love the way it looks kind of like reeds with the stems straight up and grass like leaves coming of the sides and the way the leaves move with the current. What I want to know is...
In the PFK article it says that the Red-claw crayfish is the only legal species in England and Wales. But it is sometimes sold as the Blue Lobster which is the common name for more than one species. So it is worth checking out the latin names of fish (if ur lfs knows that). Also as you say you...
Hi guys, Belfast guy here. Grosvenor have been moving for at least the last 2 years, they are having difficulty finding a spot with all their needs. Car parking is the big thing at the minute for them. Its the only place I would buy fish from!!
nope none of the above signs thats why it is strange, just this weird jerky motion and hanging at the top of the water, im thinking it may be an internal parasite of some sort. Maybe im just panicking over nothing. Also the temp of my tank was very high at 31C (usually kept at 28) so I added a...
I have a heavily planted 400l tank with Co2 injection. I have noticed that my angelfish have been hanging around the surface and jerking suddenly moving about 5 cm a time in jerky movements then stopping still again. The movement would be like if someone startled you and you jumped, only they...
Has anyone any info on Pelvichromis taeniatus. I understand that they are in the same family as the 'Krib' and they look very Krib like. Do they require the same conditions and what size do they attain? In the lfs they are labelled Pelvichromis taeniata spp. Maldives.
