That's the Mbu Puffer tetraodon mbu from the African rift lakes.
And no, sadly they're not illegal to sell but are commonly sold without any warning to the buyer.

Ironically, they also are selling American Blue crayfish, obviously unaware that they're breaking the law.
Is it possible they mislabeled them?
Yeah it's possible, but even if they're not what they're labled as, they're still illegal because all non-native crays are illegal except the red-claw and they're definately not red-claws.

Thats just realy sad  :/ .
I mean the largest tank your average person is going to have is a 300 UK gallon, they aern't going to a third as many people with 1000gallon tanks to spare in this world as there are Mbu puffers sold...Its like everytime a mbu puffer is sold, its like giving it a death sentence...
I think of all the fish, Mbu puffers should be made illegal the most :(

There are lots of fish that shouldnt be available to the general public, Redtail catfish, tiger shovelnosed catfish, pacu, silver arowana's and MBU's are just some of the more commonly seen fish that will grow to lengths exceeding 30 inches and so can never be housed adequately in a home aquarium. The smallest tank recomended for a fish can be worked out using the formula Lx4 X Wx1.5 X Hx1.5 meaning that a 3 foot long fish will require a minimum of a 12x4.5x4.5' aquarium.

Who should I write to find out if grass carp is illegal to own in south carolina? I really wanna find out...

My brother owns a freshwater blue yabbie of some sort.......crayfish....i don't don't about all of you who don't live in australia but in australia most people call crayfish yabbies.

but he didnt buy it, him and some of his mates go yabbie hunting about once each year and my brother used to have two, but th other one ate it.

Right now its a year old, when he caught it, it was only about a cm long, and its about 20 cm long, and still growing fast!!

I'm not sure whether its legal or not but i know a few people who own or have owned yabbies which they have caught from the wild.

As far as i know, its definatly illegal.

I'm trying to find the illegal fish for sc and I dont see an aquatic section, so would they be under domestic? or what do you think?

Edit: Never mind, I found a fish law section, and am in the process of reading it

Edit 2: Any ornamental fish is legal to own, or ones that are used a fishing bait, or feeders. Still nothing about a carp...

If he's in Australia, then it won't be illegal to keep Australian species, indeed people fish for them for food.

The Australian blue Yabbie is the cherax destructor that we wanted! I'm jealous!

You can't just randomly pic them out of the wild though, i think they farm them but i don't think you are allowed to tough the wild stock without permission. I know its illegal to take pretty much any other wild australian animal out from the bush.

In the PFK article it says that the Red-claw crayfish is the only legal species in England and Wales. But it is sometimes sold as the Blue Lobster which is the common name for more than one species. So it is worth checking out the latin names of fish (if ur lfs knows that). Also as you say you are in the Isle of Man your laws may be totally different so it may be worth checking out locally.

That's a good point. Although the Manx governament use the English and Welsh law system they do have the power to amend or ignore any law (or amendment to law) they feel the need too.

would anyone have a clue where i would to find out -- ive never seen any type of crayfish for sale over here so that could be a sign -- does anyone know the latin (i think its normally the one i carnt pononce) of the red crayfish that were aloud to keep
