Whats the name of that pufferfish that needs a 1000gal tank at least to live in or somthing? Are those illegal to sell cos they grow stupidly massive?
That's the Mbu Puffer tetraodon mbu from the African rift lakes.Tokis-Phoenix said:Whats the name of that pufferfish that needs a 1000gal tank at least to live in or somthing? Are those illegal to sell cos they grow stupidly massive?
Yeah it's possible, but even if they're not what they're labled as, they're still illegal because all non-native crays are illegal except the red-claw and they're definately not red-claws.Boxcar Muzzdogg said:Is it possible they mislabeled them?Ironically, they also are selling American Blue crayfish, obviously unaware that they're breaking the law.
Thats just realy sad .SirMinion said:That's the Mbu Puffer tetraodon mbu from the African rift lakes.Tokis-Phoenix said:Whats the name of that pufferfish that needs a 1000gal tank at least to live in or somthing? Are those illegal to sell cos they grow stupidly massive?
And no, sadly they're not illegal to sell but are commonly sold without any warning to the buyer.
which i think makes the point that most big fish really get screwed in the tank height department (rarely are tanks seen that are deeper than 2').Opcn said:thats a good 1850 US gallons CFC
As far as i know, its definatly illegal.Matt_Didg said:My brother owns a freshwater blue yabbie of some sort.......crayfish....i don't don't about all of you who don't live in australia but in australia most people call crayfish yabbies.
but he didnt buy it, him and some of his mates go yabbie hunting about once each year and my brother used to have two, but th other one ate it.
Right now its a year old, when he caught it, it was only about a cm long, and its about 20 cm long, and still growing fast!!
I'm not sure whether its legal or not but i know a few people who own or have owned yabbies which they have caught from the wild.
If he's in Australia, then it won't be illegal to keep Australian species, indeed people fish for them for food.Tokis-Phoenix said:As far as i know, its definatly illegal.Matt_Didg said:My brother owns a freshwater blue yabbie of some sort.......crayfish....i don't don't about all of you who don't live in australia but in australia most people call crayfish yabbies.

You can't just randomly pic them out of the wild though, i think they farm them but i don't think you are allowed to tough the wild stock without permission. I know its illegal to take pretty much any other wild australian animal out from the bush.SirMinion said:If he's in Australia, then it won't be illegal to keep Australian species, indeed people fish for them for food.Tokis-Phoenix said:As far as i know, its definatly illegal.Matt_Didg said:My brother owns a freshwater blue yabbie of some sort.......crayfish....i don't don't about all of you who don't live in australia but in australia most people call crayfish yabbies.

The Australian blue Yabbie is the cherax destructor that we wanted! I'm jealous!
That's a good point. Although the Manx governament use the English and Welsh law system they do have the power to amend or ignore any law (or amendment to law) they feel the need too.Supersalmon said:Also as you say you are in the Isle of Man your laws may be totally different so it may be worth checking out locally.
