Hi

Please see my sig.

What type of tetra would suit my tank set up.

I am planning to get a few more cardinals but would also like a to add a different type of tetra.

I need a fish which is hardy and will not breed.

what would you advise.

Many thanks.

Black Neons are hardy and easy to keep. An elegent under-rated fish which will make an interesting contrast with Cardinals, (which are not that hardy).

You obviously need to do something about the swords, but I'm sure you know that already. The CAE will also likely become a problem as it grows.

Breeding will not be an issue. As with most egglayers, few viable eggs survive the predation of the parents and other fish, any that do are unlikely to hatch in regular tapwater, and if they did, the fry would be helpless. You are not going to be over-run with tetras any time soon!

Hi

The CAE is 2 years old.

My cardinal are also 2 years old. Would the black neons school with the cardinal tetras.

True schooling is a defensive behaviour adopted by small fish when threatened, it is not usually seen in small tanks. Black Neons are as likely as any other tetra to "hang out" with Cardinals, but like any other tetra, are just as likely to do their own thing.

But Cardinals with Black Neons would be cool, I was going to do it with my black neons, but both neons and cardinals are not very hardy.

Can i dare suggest some pencil fish. I like beckford's pencil fish the males are always sparring and they have great colours. They also tend to be mid to top dwelling species and like to live in a shoal. I think they are a highly underrated fish.

Thanks. Although, I can't see why that couldn't have been typed in the first place.
I suppose you're right, although CAE appears all over the place. You could also argue that common names should not be used. I well recall when I first joined the board wondering what a "Black Skirt" was!

I'll agree with the black neons, but some glo-lights would go nicely, a 50/50 mix of glo-lights/albino glo-lights looks great :good:

I've just googled CAE and found thousands of sites that had no relation to the fish. And yet a common name would at least give basis for a search.
When I had to write essays for my psychology course, I there learned that when you type/write and feel the need to use abbreviations, you should use the full name with your abbreviated version when it first appears in the writing. Any then on you can abbreviate. Because everyone knows what it means with reference above if needed. And in my case it is always needed.

Do you have any pic of a albino glo light?

Not any that I've personally taken, they're like normal glo-lights but white instead of opaque :)

I can't find any albino ones online either
