    Painting The Tank.

If you use oil based paint then paint thinners will remove it when it's time for a change. Can oil-based paints be used on glass??

    Glass Quotes

Just got off the phone from a glazers and they quoted me £90.75 for 5 sheets of 8mm 18"x18" glass! I was expecting maybe £40/£50 max! It's cheaper paying someone to actually get the glass and make the tank than do it DIY it seems! Anyone know of any cheaper glazers??

How To Catch Praecox Rainbows From The Tank?

 very similar to my case too! Very nice colours on them. I just didn't think they had much of a personality. They weren't quite skittish, but always seemed as if they were just about to turn that way!

How To Catch Praecox Rainbows From The Tank?

I had to catch the same fish a while back. I got 2 nets with food in one. Place them in the tank, both facing each other with a gap of about 3 inches. Wait til there are about 4 rainbows in between the 2 nets, eating food, and close the nets together quickly. It'll only take you about 3-4 turns...

    Mercury Thermometer Broke

Yup, this is why it's so dangerous if we eat food that has been exposed to mercury. In Minamata, Japan fish were consumed that had eaten shellfish that had been exposed to mercury. As mercury is retained by the body it increases in concentration as it goes up the food chain. This led to people...

    Mercury Thermometer Broke

Ski, mercury is denser than water (roughly 14 times denser) so it will sink. Check your substrate. As far as I know mercury does affect fish as badly, but they can live for a while with it in their systems. Just don't eat your fish ( as mercury moves up the food chain it becomes more...

    Oysters And Their Shells

siamese fighter- she was not asking about why it is fed to chickens, but rather why the shell doesn't dissolve in sea water. chickenlady- i don't know, but i could guess! Maybe the shell does breakdown, but at a slow enough rate that the oyster has time to create new layers of shell. it's a...

    Questions:

It'll be an overflow chamber. I might drill it myself or get the glass manufacturers to drill it will they're cutting it. Another question too: Are reef bones and oean rock the same thing??

    Questions:

It'll be attached to the tank (eg the tank will extend 2.5" for a 6" block at the back of the tank). So internal and it's glass. EDIT- pic added: The lighter grey is the overflow.

    Questions:

Slight adjustment to my ideas: The overflow at the back will be 6" long x 2.5" wide x 18" height. If this hangs over the back of the stand with no support underneath will it be ok? will i need some level of support? Will a durso standpipe fit in this? I think it will, but jsut need a littl bit...

    Improvement I Think So

zoos (aka zoanthids) are a different type of coral. They're very colourful alot of the time. I think you really need to find out your flowrate though before adding anymore.

    Questions:

Bought a corner clamp at the market the other day. Was £2 for the one. I'll use cardboard or bike tyre inner tubes. Should be fine! Cheers for the heads up anyways! Em, tbh I dunno, but I'm banking on it! I'll stay in the halls for the first year I think. Then get a flat. Dunno about your...

    Questions:

OK, a new question! How much silicone will I need for an 18" cube (8mm thick) + maybe another 30" altogether? On ebay there is 310 ml clear silicone for £5 Will 2 tubes do? Also, live sand. Some people say it's a con others say it's necessary! Who to believe?? I like the look of live sand...

Plants For My Toad Tank :)

No need for C02 in your tank IMO. If you're just wanting a simple way of planting the tank go for easy plants such as mosses, anubias, java ferns, hydrocotyle leucophala, hygrophila sp. (polysperma or corymbosa) + alot more.Have a look on tropica.com . All of these plants will grow emersed from...

    Improvement I Think So

Do you know this coral's needs? Do you have enough flow and lighting etc? Is it photsynthetic? Does it need spot feeding? You really need to know all this before buying a coral!

    Typical Discus

I've seen that before. From my POV it's one of the most amazing habits I've seen, all the mini discus shimmering away! I thought this could maybe be suplimented in some way if the fry were seperate? Might be talking rubish, but i would think it could be possible :fun: -_-
  29. 14gtr14

    Improvement I Think So

filtration via filters is generally not used due to the need for very clean tanks (eg very little nitrates too), and filters are nitrate "factories" that produce and store it. In UG filtration it is very hard to clean this out because it is your substrate that is the media. LR basically is all...

    Online Plant Shops

Voted AE because I've only had good experiences from them. Birstall should've been on the list. I'm sure a few people around here buy alot from them. Java plants is the worst I've had by a fair bit. AM is very good for different mosses etc and small bits of equipments (like diffusers), but AE...

    Mobile Phones- Which Do Recommend

    Halide Bulb Prices

I think alot has to do with the chemical make up of the lamp. Certain halides will be more expensive to produce (and may be better) than others. I think it's mainly to do with what metal (Group 1) is used in the halide (halogen gas + an element that is less electronegative than the halogen(in...

    Typical Discus

Yup, the eggs would be fine out of the water for a bit. I moved rainbowfish eggs a while ago and they were absolutely fine. Do discus fry NEED their parents to survive or would they do just fine on their own?

    Improvement I Think So

Looking pretty good! Live rock's looking live compared to the first! What are you aiming for with the tank? It's a 7 gallon, right? I would get shot of the UG filter. And is that an airstone in the back?? I would remove that too. EDIT- Have you still got 3 clowns? Tbh even 1 clown is too much...

    Would This Work

You really need to read up on this stuff. I would say aim for x20 turnover per hour. Filter aren't really used. Only really to store a phosphate remover and carbon, or to add extra flow (no media inside).
