This would be ideal for a shoal of Denison Barbs (aka Redline Torpedo barbs), a shoal of zebra, leopard or pearl danios (NOT celestial pearl danios) OR white cloud mountain minnows and 1 or 2 of either ctenocephalus species of hillstream loach OR chaetostoma species rubbernose plec.   Remember...

Wow, not often P@H gets something decent in. I was wondering if it was that chap in Boyatt Wood, can't remember the name, but the only LFS I've ever seen Prime in. None of the LFS around Portsmouth stock it.

Guppy Help! (Dying Guppies 10Th Try With Guppies.)

What is the KH of your water, and also of your mother's water?   If your KH is low, and your mother's is reasonably high, it would explain why you have the problem and she doesn't appear to. Guppies, in common with the other common livebearers, need hard water to survive. Their bodies need to...

    Nitrate Level

So, hands-up all those for whom the above went completely over their head?   What TTA is trying to say, in his overly-complicated style, is that there are no real set limits to nitrate, and until it gets seriously high, don't worry overly. (That's if I understood him right.......)

So long as you cook them, yes.   We usually have peas at dinner, I just take one or two from the bowl before they are served up (they aren't boiled in salted water). If you want to do a couple of peas specially, take one or two from the packet, pour some boiling water into a mug, and leave the...

I should also point out that we don't allow people to have multiple accounts. We want our members to know who they are communicating with, and if someone has lots of different accounts then others get confused. This is also the reason why we don't like members changing names.

    Breeding Guppies

I'm not saying don't try it, but as I said, it will be a struggle to find homes for the fry. You could also advertise them on Aquarist Classifieds. I had a quick look on there, people are selling guppy fry for 50p.   I think you'll need something bigger than a 4gallon for the fry, I think you...

Guppy Throwing Up And Neon Tetra Has Red Gill Area

It does sound as though your fish are suffering from ammonia poisoning.   The problem is that since we don't know an ammonia level, we can't properly advise. In the meantime, we need to ensure that the water is as ammonia free as possible. Change as much of the water as you possibly can, just...

    Stock For A 10 Gallon

Accepted wisdom is that neons need something bigger than a 10G, because of their activity levels, but you have them, and have nowhere else to put them, so we need to work around that absolute factor   IMHO, the tank as per your suggestion is rather overstocked. Cories need to be in a group of 6...

    2014 World Cup

I think Roy has to play Rooney in the middle of the 3 attacking midfielders. Round holes and square pegs, etc.Swap Rooney and Sterling around, or maybe if the Ox is fit, play him on the left and drop Sterling to the bench.   However, of course, you have to factor in the fact that Uruguay's squad...

    Advice Requested - Species Compatibility

Interesting point, not one that I had considered. I advised the peppered, because that's what Jennifer had identified as her & hubby's preferred species.   Planet Catfish advises anywhere from 15-25C, (http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=271) so I would say having the...

Probably The Stupidest Question I Have To Ask.

You could always try reading the instructions on the side of the bottle?   Seriously, not all water conditioners are the same. The concentration of the active ingredients varies. Therefore, there is no way of knowing how much to use.   Same with the good bacteria thing (not that I would...

Biorb Life 45L, New Air Stone And Internal Filter

The bubble wall doesn't, in itself, introduce much in the way of oxygen into the water. What it does do is cause the surface to ripple, and that's where the majority of gas exchange occurs. And that's where the problem with these tanks lies.   The surface area is much smaller compared to a...

If it were me doing it, given you have softwater, then I would get:-   1M, 2F Dwarf Gourami 10 Cherry barb 10 Cardinal Tetra 8 Peppered Cory 6 Ghost Shrimp   Platies will not thrive in softwater.

    Stocking Suggestions?

If you added all of those fish, your tank would be massively overstocked, and you would inevitably suffer problems with high levels of nitrate.   As stated, neons require a bigger tank. Harlequins again require a bigger tank, and would need to be in a group of 6+ You don't say which species of...

    Need Some Stocking Suggestions

Again, guppies don't thrive in softwater, so I wouldn't recommend them for you, but in theory you could get 4 or 5 in there. Make sure you only get males, though, as you will probably get a population explosion if you have a female.

Well Dreamer asked for my hardest question, and that was about as hard as I could come up with in the timescale.   Ninjouzata is quite correct, that is indeed a male Xentoca Eiseni, common names include redtail splitfin and orangetail goodeid. Advice Requested - Species Compatibility

If you have softwater, then my advice would be to stay away from guppies, swordtails and mollies, but obviously, it's your choice. ;)   I would also advise just letting your pH stay where it wants to stay - trying to artificially adjust it can be problematic, and if it goes wrong, it can fatally...

Tank Advice And Moving To New Tank

There are various different types of filter media   The main three, to my mind, are filter wool or sponges, activated carbon and ceramic.   Ceramic filter media are primarily to encourage bacterial growth. The ceramic is made such that there is plenty of surface area for bacteria to cling to...

    Need Some Stocking Suggestions

With regards to filtration, I would think that, unless you did something daft, like using bleach, the bacteria should have survived reasonably intact, however, when you add new fish, test the water daily until you have a complete week of 0ppm ammonia and nitrite. You only mentioned nitrite and...

    Breeding Guppies

The major thing to point out is that the male guppy is likely to harrass the female to death if kept as a single pair.   In those terms, it would be best to have at least 2, and even better 3, females so that the male splits his attentions across the females, and doesn't focus just on the one.  ...

Fair doo's :good:   How do you quantify "easy" ?   There are quite a few species that are just "male+female+water=fry", pretty much any poecilid livebearer, the goodeid livebearers are pretty much the same, kribensis likewise, and convicts aren't exactly difficult either.

Tank Advice And Moving To New Tank

There is no shame in making errors, we've all made them. Please follow Fluttermoth's advice on doing a series of small water changes, kinda 10% per day would be my recommendation until the nitrate level is down to around 40ppm, thereafter I would suggest 50% every week.
