Ok... you put gravel from an already devoloped tank into their to help cycle... did your pre existing tank have an undergravel filter? If not than all you did was drop rocks into the tank and didn't help with the cycling at all... their are some commercial chemicals such as Topfin Ammonia...

What kind of fish are we talking about here? because cichlids do great in a ph of 8.0-8.4, and their are some that like a higher PH, if you're keeping regular community fish I'd recommend getting a ph buffer, Yes I know you don't want to use chemicals but trust me I use ph buffers in my 75gallon...

not nessesarily, ammonia and nitrite build up effects your PH level, I'd recommend getting a 7.0 ph buffer anyways that way if you ph ever spikes, you can easily bring it back down to it's normal level... As to using the buffer every water change, use a PH buffer as needed, whenever you notice...

Ya... most fish can addapt to the hardness of water pretty quickly, you tap water is HIGH your well water is medium... and the PH level is set already for you so go with it :lol: good luck with your tank :D
