    Questions:

The sump'll be around 3 ft below the display tank. I bought the larger pump to help compensate for the loss. Didn't think it'd be -1000lph though! :o Any ideas on main tank plumbing? I've been on melevsreef, all I can find is DIY overflow boxes and the actual sumps.

    Questions:

I thought it would be best keeping them all in the one topic instead of starting new ones for them all. Sooo, I am away to uni in just over a year's time so I've decided I may as well sell my 4 foot tropical, sell my tropicals altogether in fact! And begin concentrating on a nice reef tank that...

    Would This Work

You really need to go into more detail other than just "filter" or "powerhead" etc. What will you be running in your filter? What total water movement will your tank have (lph)? What lighting are you looking for? Are your growing corals? If so, what type? BUy yourself a decent reef book. You...

Omg! This Is All French To Me?!

only difference between coldwater and tropical is really the temperatures. Tropical you buy a heater and cold you don't. I would dsay you may as well go for a tropical. Just read all the pinned topics over and over until you get a clear idea of what's going on! Also, the bigger the tank...

    Recommend Me A R/c Car

I've got a Kyosho Ford Focus WRC that's been gathering dust for a year or so now if you want it. The suspension's broken at the moment, but I can easily fix it. It's a great speedy little car and cost me £180 a few years ago.

    What Is This?

could be a wendtii. remember alot of suppliers grow their plants emmersed so they might just be the crypts emmersed leaves. They should die off and new, aquatic leaves will grow. ...hopefully :D!

    70w Or 150w Mh

ok, i've got the chance of getting an arcadia 3 series 150w mini pendant for £75 OR buying a floodlight 150w metal halide for roughly £30-£50. Is it worth paying more for the arcadia and going a bit over budget or buying a big muckle floodlight and going underbudget? (bearing in mind that...

    Nano Tank

what's the total wattage? mushrooms are supposedly very hardy so aslong as your water's good and you have adequate lighting they'll be fine. Usually people keep their litghts on between 8 and 12 hours a day. hope that helps!

    Nano Tank

hi! welcome to tff! :) what lights do you have on the tank? what type of coral is it?

    Nano Reef

i would highly recommend using RO water. A year'll give you good time to read up on here and buy a couple decent books (try Jeremy Kurtz' Simple Guide to Mini-reef Aquariums - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Simple-Guide-Mini-.../dp/0793821215)

    Nano Reef

someone correct me if i'm wrong, but from what i've read on here, if you're struggling with a planted tank then your probably going to struggle with a nano reef. EDIT- I've been planning for the last month or two a nano that i'll set up in around June/July so I've got a kind of price plan...

    Mobile Phones- Which Do Recommend

Not sure on the prices for pay as you go, but the Sony Ericsson K800i is a very good phone. I have it one T-Mobile 'Flext'. It's kinda like a mix between PAYG and Contract: you pay a monthly fee, but it is up to you how you spend it.

    Tank Volume Turnover

Easy way of working out gallons from dimensions- pop it in google: 38 * 18 * 18 = 12312 inches cubed then type in "12312 inches cubed to gallons" = 53.29 US Gallons OR 44.38 Imperial (Uk) Gallons :good:

    Mexican Dwarf Orange Crayfish

lenny, It isn't really about people keeping them it's about what would happen if they escaped/were released. They would devestate the natural ecosystem, just as boboboy implied and severum boy said too. I think it is most definitely better to stay within the realms of the law if it is to...

    70w Or 150w Mh

cheers ski I looked on the Arcadia website and they sell 150W+ bulbs. I also had a look on a bulb suppliers website and they sell aquarium MH bulbs, again, they were 150W+. I could maybe do a 150W, but surely the room will be illuminated a fair bit if it's 8" above the surface. Would there be...

    70w Or 150w Mh

I've recently been planning a 15"x15x15 nano cube (roughly 15 gal) and I was wondering about metal halides (specifically floodlight versions). For 15 gallons would a 150w MH be a bit overkill and would 70w be more suited? Only problem would be that if I went with a 70w a would have to stick to...

Increasing The Growth In My New Planted Tank

first of all i'd buy some laterite to mix in with the sand. this is pprobably the reason why alot of your plants are dying- silica sand is inert so you'll need to add fert yourself.

    Fishing

fly fishing's great fun. tbh i don't like "drowning worms" i would rather be constantly doing something- like casting a fly in a small river or loch catching muscular wild brown trout. I find this more challenging and rewarding than catching big, fatty stocked rainbow trout or carp. I'm sure...

Anybody Here Tried A Diy External Filter For A Smallish Tank? (15 Gall

sorry, never saw this comment yesterday voo! i was thinking about this today. Would it work as well? Would the power of the powerhead not move th gravel etc out of the way? how does this work? If your outlet is at the bottom how do you keep a pretty much constant water level? thanks again...

    How To Convert ('c - 'f)

Anybody Here Tried A Diy External Filter For A Smallish Tank? (15 Gall

i think I'll go with this actually. I can pick up a second hand powerhead dirt cheap on ebay. How did you make your drip tray? Just a tray with several holes in it?? In your filter is there a constant water level ( as in deep enough to chuck in duckweed or elodea) ? Would that work? Or would...

Anybody Here Tried A Diy External Filter For A Smallish Tank? (15 Gall

so do you mean that the plant matter would clog the powerhead? that's what I was thinking just after i posted this. would it make a big difference? I guess that's what's happening to my filter just now. After a few days it gets clogged with leaves etc, but atleast just a powerhead would be...

Anybody Here Tried A Diy External Filter For A Smallish Tank? (15 Gall

ok, i came up with a plan. is this roughly what you were suggesting cuticom? I have a shelf above my tank. I thought of this: Do you think- if it works- that I should just have sand in there? Should I go with a 5 litre or 2 litre bottle? Should I have taps on the in/out flows? What lph...

    Dwarf Puffers- My Plan!

tried to get 3 yesterday, but nowhere in central scotland had them :o!! I tried phoning everywhere: edinburgh to glasgow, and every other place in between! I'll need to leave it a few weeks I think. It'll let my plants grow and fill out though, which should only be a plus.
