Coral Of The Week - Euphyllias

Thanks for the advice! :D I would love to get one for sure. Just thinking of where I could place it, there are a few places but they all either have medium to high flow. Would this be an issue for most Euphyllias?

Coral Of The Week - Euphyllias

I have asked this already in my journal, but might be worth putting it here. Would any Euphyllias be suitable for my Orca 450? My main worry would be that due to the small size of the tank, any stinging tentacles could reach other corals quite easily.

haha.....sexy shrimp shaking their thang! Could I have a blood shrimp + sexy shrimp in my tank or would there be problems with them. Plus, if I only go for sexy shrimp, how many could I have in my tank? Thanks for the answers and feedback! :D

    Orca Tl450 Nano Reef Log

I eventually want to add a shrimp to my setup and was thinking yesterday about the various possiblities: a. Skunk Cleaner Shrimp: I have more or less ruled this out, after reading how they can annoy corals, steal food etc b. Blood Shrimp: Seriously considering one of these, they are good...

    My First Nano!

Yeah, I love when they do that. There is no sign of them at all, then you put food in and their little trunks spring up and next thing you know they are all flying around the tank.

    Orca Tl450 Nano Reef Log

I would be worried about any stinging tentacles being able to reach most of my corals in such a small tank. Do you think that would be an issue? (I agree, Duncans are really cool....and I love the name!)

    Orca Tl450 Nano Reef Log

Thanks Tina, I have a Red Sea Alk test, which seems decent enough. However I will be eventually migrating all the tests over to Salifert, so I will probably get all the above 3 in one order. I haven't really though about any hard corals as yet, but it is definitely something I will be...

    Orca Tl450 Nano Reef Log

Cheers! :D Mine is the 450, so smaller than the 550, but I find it a great little tank. The 450 does need some mods to get the most out of it though, not sure if the 550 is the same though. Thanks Buddyboy, I will try and retest tomorrow evening. The other Salifert kits are great though, very...

Might just try that Seffie! :) Just tested with Salifert kits..... Nitrate: 25 (previously 5 with Red Sea!!!) Nitrite: 0 Ammonia: 0 Phosphate: 0.03 The only one I am having trouble with is pH. I am getting a dark brown colour, but does that put it at 8.2 (between 8.0 (light green) & 8.3 (dark...

    Stocklist For My New 2x2x2

Not an expert by a long shot, but I dont know whether 2 Clowns and 4 Damsels is such a good idea. Damsels can be quite aggressive. I'm sure others will be able to clarify though. :)

    Orca Tl450 Nano Reef Log

My Salifert test kits arrived today! :good: so I can dump my Red Sea ones. I now have Nitrate, Nitrite, Ammonia, pH & Phosphate Salifert kits. Hopefully they will be easier to read than the Red Sea ones. I will be getting a Calcium test kit in the near future. Are there any others I will need...

Could Never Keep Saltwater Fish Alive

When I was referring to water changes I was using my own example of 25% a week. However I have a nano tank, and so I am much more susceptible to water quality issues + a 25% water change isn't a big deal for me due to the small amounts of water involved. Like others have said it all depends on...

    Gallaghers Orca Journal :)

Looking good! :good: What do the Starfish look like? The insect things could be pods, do a google image search for Copepods or Amphipods and see if they are the same. The millipede is probably some sort of Bristleworm, or perhaps a Fireworm.

Thanks Seffie! :D I think the most important thing you need is a tripod, once you have the tripod it is pretty easy to take good pics of the tank.

How To Set Up A New Tank With Marines And Liverock?

To be honest if you think it will be pain testing water, mixing salt and doing water changes you have made the right decision - as if you weren't willing to do these things you would end up with an unhealthy tank. Maybe in the future you will change your mind.

Second Attempt At A Saltwater Aquarium

Cool. The one thing that sticks out for me is the powerhead on the left. It seems in an odd position and is sort of blocking the view of the nice rock. Can it not be placed higher up and towards the front, pointing at the rock? Just my opinion though! :)

    Orca Tl450 Nano Reef Log

After my test results on Monday, I performed the 50% water change on Tuesday and test results on Wednesday were perfect. I now have a few additions to the tank, 2 small Rics and 2 small Zoa colonies from Zoaphoria. Probably not very exciting for the seasoned reefers - but I am delighted with...

Excellent work AK. Very well thought out and executed. I am learning a lot for when I eventually convince the better half that we need a bigger tank + sump! :D

I can only go by my own experience, but my Halloween Crab is fine. They can knock things over/move things if they are small and unsecured.

Betta_246 Is Joining The Salty Side! :d

Are you going to buy RO water and mix your own salt? Or buy pre-mixed? Either way I would also get a suitable container where you can mix your water, and also an extra powerhead and heater to mix the water & get it to the right temp before water changes.

Im Back Am Ready To Go,just A Few More Questions

I would have the tank 2/3 filled with the saltwater (at an sg of 1.026 if you are keeping corals) and with the pumps/heaters etc on. Then add the rock, and when that's done add the rest of the water to fill the tank to the correct level.

    Boyu Orca Tl 450

Yeah, if you can get a bigger tank, say the 550, go for it. I got my 450 for nothing but already I want a much bigger tank and I have barely had mine going for any length of time!! So if you can get something even a little bigger, do it! :D

    Tl450 Lighting Replacement?

Hey everyone, I was just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction if I want to replace the lights in my Orca TL450. Boyu Orca Tl 450

This is the tank I have. Good little tank when modded but limiting with regards fish. Most people will say it is too small for a pair of percs. The mods I felt mine needed: 2 new powerhead (one for inlet chamber + one for return chamber) 1 koralia nano powerhead for display area of tank 1 New...

Could Never Keep Saltwater Fish Alive

Well, you will get better/more detailed answers from the more experienced people here. But, main method of filtration for marine tanks is by using more natural filtration ie: the correct amount of live rock, and good flow and water turnover. My system is a nano tank, with no sump. But basically...
