What are you doing today?

If you need to quick check on a lake, that's where test strips can be very very handy. I don't use them in aquariums, but if you keep them dry and well taken care of, they beat a test kit in the outdoors. You get more information. The cost isn't worth it for tanks, but their inefficiency is almost an aquarium myth. I've used both systems side by side and gotten the same readings, with much more on the strip than on the frustrating API master kits.

I looked it up and I thought the ph would be evenly dispersed In a lake water test, but according to what I found it is in different concentrations according to depth. since that is the norm it wouldn't do any good to dip water from the surface. they have electronic modules that can be used at different depths but I'm not curious enough to pay for one,

Waiting on Linda to dust herself off. She discovered a tick on her chest and I am unable to remove it safely because it is deeply embedded.\

Off to the doc we go.
last time I ad a tick a few years back I started to have a fever and felt funny. I went to the emergency room and when it was all over I had a prescription and they billed medicare $4,700.

My son was bitten by a tick earlier this year; when the mark took on the characteristic pattern he went to his doctor and was prescribed an antibiotic as he'd contracted Lyme disease from the tick. It cost him £9.90 for the prescription.

When we where scouting, we where treating tick cases with a red hot cigarette on sight. You can also cover them with a bandage filled with humid salt.

Both ways, It hurts...

The more it has time to embed itself the worse, if you ask me that same question today, I'll start smoking right away.

It when off instantly and I felt no after effect... The sooner it gets off you, the better, whatever means required.

With the delay you can can experience before effective emergency care is given, can be very detrimental.

I'm maybe crazy but... I couldn't wait 2 minutes knowing that a parasite is feeding on me, without personally removing it no matter what.

While a lit cigarette works that is only practical if you smoke. ;) If you are in an area that may have ticks carry some self striking wood matches or a disposable lighter. Works the same and just as well as a lit cigarette.

For those campers out there a little tip about wood matches. Ever have these matches get wet? If so you know they become useless. Take batches of 10-15 wood matches in a bundle and dip in melted paraffin or candle wax to around half way up the wood stems.. Makes the matches immune to water; just pop one off the bundle as needed.

Anyway, what I did today... Waiting a bit for a football game to start and, earlier,
I ordered something for my cockatiel from Hades. This will go on top of his penthouse. It is 15X15 inches length and depth and 16 high in inches. There is already a metal bracket across the top above with a hanger for a toy and a wood perch that I'm sure I'll probably have to remove. The current thing on the cage top also has brackets for water and feed bowls but I never use them anyway. The new 'playground' also has a floor that is easily cleaned so I won't be doing as much poop cleaning on the top bars on the cage. Not sure if the nut looking piece of wood on the floor of the thing toward the left is mounted or loose. If loose it may sort of get lost if he doesn't like playing with it as he tends to grab and throw things he doesn't like. Sigh, I get hit upside my head now and then when he decides to throw something in his feed mix he doesn't like.

And, no, he absolutely does NOT get spoiled! Eventually he will probably eat it as he is a flying pleco that LOVES to chew down on wood but at $24.19 USD it is worth it as it will last several years. I THINK he will like this as he is always climbing or sleeping or eating; his main three activities other that pestering me. ;)
