I visited my terminally ill friend this morning in hospital. She was in good spirits although very tired which is her usual these days. Her family was there too so we all had a lovely visit together, we always have lots of laughs....bitter sweet
I am sad for you but happy that you got this time with your friend. Bittersweet indeed.

Praying for you and your friend at this time! 🫂

Thank you, she has some time left but she's deteriorating at a steady pace. Her situation is very sad, but she's a spiritually strong woman and has accepted the inevitable 🥺 it's us who get left behind who are struggling

sold one sewing machine, picking up another, maybe 2 in pretty colors but without cabinets. Those Japanese machines are so pretty and so tough. This is the machine I sold yesterday. About a 1960 Model 15 clone. I really don't like singers that much

When I was a kid, I loved my grandmother's Singer machine, with its foot pedal. They could market them as aerobic exercise machines now. She could get that thing swinging with her footwork.

I just went to a carnivorous plant workshop, to try to learn more. I did - enough to know I know nothing about them. My fishroom stays humid, and it does get fungus gnats in winter, and lots of outdoor flying bugs in summer, when the window fans are off at night. I think they could do well, and they are interesting plants.

This evening our newish fish club has a meeting, in a new, larger venue. It was postponed last weekend with the storms, but it's getting close to zero out there, and the days are getting longer.

Which plants did you decide to try? I have an ongoing fungus gnat battle and have also considered going down the carnivorous plant route. I wanted to try sundews...if I was a fungus gnat I think I'd sit on one 🤔

After doing water change on my bedroom aquarium (a 180); i farted after all the new water needed some gas.

Alternatively, nematodes work. I got mine at Gardening-naturally.com.
Thanks for the link, I did have a go with nematodes and they did help with my plants in soil...not so much with my orchids which are in bark! And although I keep the orchids separate from my other houseplants the gnats have apparently taken over yet again 🤦🏻‍♀️

I've managed to reduce Gnats greatly in a few different ways. Capped soil with Lecca or gravel, watering from the bottom, aquarium sponge wrapped around the plastic pot that fills any gaps between that pot and the ceramic pot (so the gnats can't get to the wet soil at the bottom) and fly traps next to the pots. Only a couple of gnats seem to get past all that, but they are dealt with through other means:lol:

They worked on my orchids too. I do remember I had to keep the compost or bark damp for 4 weeks to keep the nematodes alive long enough to deal with the gnat eggs.

Ok, I shall have another go and see what happens 👍🏻

I had to leave before I could really go over the plants. I added a small pitcher plant, and decided for yet another try at a Venus flytrap.

The room with all the tanks is humid for a lot of the sundews, and I have to do some research. But the greenhouse people were a little embarrassed, as the sundews had caught a number of fungus gnats in the hour or two they'd been on the table....

I'll do some reading and go back later in the week, as they had brought a lot of them in.

My last bout with fungus gnats was stopped with sticky traps and fly strips. A fishroom in a garage being the structure it is, there are occasional ones around. I have two spiders up in the corners doing well, and the odd wandering lady bug. Nothing runs on the floors, one plant has recurring thrips, another had aphids, and there is the occasional fungus gnat to spot.

Today I made arrangements by phone to return four fish that were purchased without proper research to the not so LFS. They were very accommodating, and we made an appointment for Wednesday at about 11AM.

They will give full store credit for what I purchased. I am very happy with their caring service. Linda and I will now properly research their stock list for suitable replacements.

Afterwards, Linda fell into a pain killer induced sleep. I sat in a chair in the fish room and began reading Ben Franklin's autobiography while listening to some 1950s rock n roll music, (Bo Diddly, Chuck Berry, and Buddy Holly. I think even the fish are dancing! Ben would probably not be.
