Urgent Plz Help!

ok so i have the pacus in the big tank in the basement, and i scooped up the pleco and hes in a bucket waiting to o into the big planted thank upstairs. if i take a cup of water and add it to the bucket from the tank a couple of times will that be a compromise between the slow aclimating and the "i dont think a long drawn out would be good" advice?

Instead of just dumping him in.....

Ok ive been looking through her cabinets under the tanks alot, and Im curious now... Do you all have seperate everythings for each of your tanks? Bundles and bundles of tubes, turkey basters (?!?), nets of every size, eye droppers, bottles and bottles of things I cant possibly begin to understand, bags and bags of sand, dirt, rocks, gravel, fake plants, wood, more wood, and even fake wood. Is there a reason each tank has its own things? Cant you use the same net for everything? Do you really need 7 bottles of the same stuff?

Oh, I found melafix, primafix, rid-ich, teatree oil, zeemax, ampicillex, fluke tabs, maracyns 1 AND 2...and thats all i could find. Is it me, or is she paranoid?? some of these bottles arent even open!

Ok since the only other tank has bad water, can I treat the whole thing? the bottle says "a safe all natural way to treat bacterial fish infections" ad then it gives directions to treat not only when theres a problem, but when you add new fish. So it cant be bad to treat everyone, right? Or can I use the bucket that corresponds to this tank to stick the pleco in that to treat it? but then it wouldnt have all the filters and bubble thingy in there so I should treat the tank as a whole right?
Sounds about right. No, DO NOT mix any of them! Just to be extra safe.

You released the GN pleco into the empty tank, correct? If so, place him in a bag and float him in the planted tank for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, let some water from the tank into the bag and let float another 15 minutes then go ahead and release him into the tank. If he is still in the bag from last night then by all means, just go ahead and release him. The spot on the pleco, was it there last night? If not, then it is likely that one of the Pacus has had a nip at him. Dose the planted tank with Melafix as per the instructions on the bottle. The Melafix will not hurt the plants or anyone else in the tank. The GN should not bother the plants or the other tank inhabitants.

Now for the CO2, I imagine that she is using a DIY CO2 kit. Is there a bottle or canister with airline tubing running from it to the tank?

I would test the pH of both the bucket and the tank. If they are relativel close, say within .3 or .4, then I wouldn't even bother with the acclimation. Just put him in. The temperature may be a little different but unless it's 10+ degrees, it should be fine. If the pH is considerably different, you may want to go through a slower acclimation.

The advice that rdd gave (I think) was based on the belief that the GN was still in it's shipping bag. Adding a cupful of tank water to the bucket every few minutes should work fine.

The reason that I suggest that you bother with acclimation is due to the fact that the planted tank is likely running CO2 which will lower the pH and the tank that he is in now is bare and freshly cycled.

yes the pleco was in the empty tank, now hes in the bucket upstairs and Im going to add in the cupful of water now. I do see a big canister next to the one the guy says is the filter...

the spot on teh pleco was not there last night, so your probably right about the biting. And I dosed the tank as per the instructions on the bottle.

Getting the hang of this fish keeping malarke aren't you?

By the end of this, once Sakura is better, you will want a tank of your own

i was just about to say exactly the same thing

that looks just like it...

so thats the co2, its for the plants, so i know the what and where...now all i need is the how lol...

how do i redo the co2? do i need to be looking in this cabinet for a new canister? or do i open that one up? isnt it under pressure? but if shes timing to redo it, then its empty?

And you know I HAVE to have a tank of my own now lol...

To be honest, I don't have a lot of experience with pressurized CO2 and I would hate for you to blow Sakura's house up while she is away. lol You might try asking in the planted tank section...

ok then lol....so ill just be leaving that alone and the plants will just have to fend for themselves for a while.....

that said, i think the pleco likes the planted tank better. hes zooming around like crazy.

i feel bad for the pacus though....they dont have anything in the tank for them...

I dont know much about predatory fish, but I do know that they cant really have plants in the tank with them and they will rip them to shreds..Im sure they are perfectly happy..
