Trying To Breed My Cories

I had some endlers and I'd never, in a million years, go there again. I gave them away (despite how expensive they were) as they we the most aggressive lil sh*ts I've ever seen. They actually had all of my platies cornered too afraid to move

I'm not sure these little cories are liking water changes!

Currently, I move the cory pot to the window sill where I can see best. Then I'm getting a fresh pot full of tank water and then carefully sucking the water out of the cory pot with my turkey baster (god I'd be hopeless without that thing! It has so many uses ) and then adding the fresh with the turkey baster - it's slow and pain staking and the little babies go whizzing round in a right panic. I then chuck the old water out of the cory pot back into the fry tank. I'm also using a tiny pipette to suck up any tiny bits of food, debris, anything that looks dirty and could make them ill

I know it has to be done but I'm really worried about stressing them so much that they die.

If anyone has any better idea's then I'm willing to listen :)

Because of the little volume of water in the pot,and with 9, possible film building up on the bottom that does tend to be the cause of many a cory fry' demise...i would opt to put them in the fry tank :good:

What are you feeding them on?

really? they dont look it. would they do ok in my tank? i have cherry barbs, bronze corys neons and black neons

hi and thanks for the replies.

I have some platies in the fry tank that are big enough to eat them at present. Planning on taking them to the lfs on Tuesday. I could move them into my breeding net and put that on the side of the fry tank if you all think that might be better for them. It would mean they are in the water movement from the filter and would only get fresh water every other day (although I could re-fresh it everyday but it would be fresh de-chlorinated tap water)

They have a clump of java moss in with them and they've had a tiny amount of tetramin baby

okay, they've been moved. I've got them in my breeding net, attached to the side of the fry tank until Tuesday when I can take the larger platy fry to my lfs. I've given them the clump of java moss and the air stone just in case there's not enough getting in there from the filter.

We'll see how things go

I think she's getting ready to spawn again. She's doing something she was doing last week a few days before she spawned.

She keeps going into the corners and swimming up to the top as if she's having a drink. It's odd behaviour. None of the other females do it

my bronze female did that

Maybe to late, but a eye dropper maybe faster than a pipette for removing waste from the fry tank.

Mine do that, they go up & down in the corner of the tank near the filter outflow.
Usually a day or so after is when I find eggs

she's looking pretty chubby this morning. It'll be nearly a week since the last spawn so I'm waiting with baited breath!!

It's good to know that mine isn't the only cory doing the corner thing - good to know for us all what the signs are to look for :)

I wonder if I can catch them in the act again

okay, checked in on cory babies and all seems okay with them. Done my water test on the tank for ammonia and nitrite and it's looking a bit so-so. I've just fed them so I'm gonna give them 10 minutes or so and then do a water change. This could be fun :fun:

well then nine became the four (that I could find) one was dead so the four became the 3. I've no idea where the other 5 have gone but I've just found a hole in the net so they could be loose in the tank.

The 3 have now been let loose in the tank - what will be will be.

I've now made a decision.

If I get any more eggs I'm going to put them in the plastic trap floated in the fry tank. I'll change 50% water daily on the fry tank and then when the eggs hatch if they want to get out of the trap and into the tank they can. I can't keep putting this pressure on myself.

Nature has to do it's own thing now

Oh no, hope they all do ok in the tank, keep us posted
