thanks Caz, nice holiday I hope
There's still 9 and no sign of the other 2 eggs. I can only assume they've eaten them. It's not like 2 cory eggs can just vanish
So, I guess out of 17 eggs I've got 9 babies. Is 50% good or bad? Is there something I could've done to make the rest survive? It would be good to know for future reference and for others trying to get cory babies too.
I've added some java moss to their little pot now and I'll be changing their water again tonight. I'm using water from the fry tank to change it as it's better water (PH7, no ammonia or nitrite) than the main tank at present (PH6 still getting low ammonia readings now and then)
I just hope I can get them to survive this time.
On a side note:
I mentioned I'd lost a female platy yesterday (had to euthanise her
) When I found her she had what looked like a prolapse. She had a huge mass hanging out of her and she was hiding in the plants. I didn't think it was fair to let her stay that way so decided to put her to sleep. When I was doing my main tank water change this morning I found 5 newly born fry - I'm guessing they were hers and that could've been the reason for the prolapse?
So I now have 9 newly hatched cory babies and 4 newly born orphaned platy fry. Number 5 refused to let me catch it either with net, jug or turkey baster. I decided any fry that clever had a good chance of surviving in the main tank so it's still in there!!
I'm going to have to net out the bigger fry this week and get them to the lfs. Growing cories need a home larger than a cut down juice bottle lol
