The snail I believe is a dove snail...he was on the glass last night so I know he is ok...they walk funny almost lurching all the time!

Yeah I know...clever cats! Apparently they find the loose change from the back of the sofa and then save it up for xmas and birthdays thats there day job being house cats!

He is nice ...... strange how he was against the tank but now he is buying stuff to go in it!

Seeing as my snail is my first official tank mate he ( I presume!) is going to be called Charles Fredrick Worth after the very first Fashion designer! Or Charlie for short!

I am off to get some more rock and rubble in a bit... praying I dont get any more mantis shrimps.....surely I have had my fair share already!

A quick question.....when should I add the sand? After I have added the rest of my rock or let the rock settle for 24hrs and then add the sand? Oh and do I need to wash the sand first? (In RO of course!)

All according which sand you are adding - I put mine in straight away after the lr without washing

I bought 5.5kg of rock all with nice caves and tunnels in, so in total I have 10.5kg in the main display and 7.4kg in the external and rear fuge chambers.

I have put the sand in as well...looks nice...shame its a bit too cloudy for pics! Im really happy with the look and the tank has passed the shake test! (that would be the cats jumping on the tank and no rocks moving!)

So today will be the first day of testing!!!

Do I test for all 3? (ammonia, nitrite and nitrate) or just the first 2 to begin with?
Do I test every 24hrs at the same time each day?

What shall I expect to see with spikes etc?

I need to get some extra test kits as I only have the basics so far...which ones do I need and in which order do I need them? I plan on having LR, fish, inverts and some softies.

Oh and pics will follow this evening!

don't know about when to test for spikes etc... as i never did it., but as for which test kits to get:

ammonia
nitrite
nitrate

then

phosphate

if getting LPS then

calcium
magnesium

i don't test for anything else.

general rule is don't add any supliments unless you're testing for it.

I tested three days after adding rock (I think), I tested for everything so I could watch what was happening I can't remember if I tested every 24 hours or 48 hours

I tested every 24hrs, thats cause I am really sad probably and stuck at home. It gave me something to do. It does show you what is happening very well though. Had I tested every 48hrs I may have missed my Nitrite spike.
