The Fashion House Birthday Nano Tank!

I think I have ID'd the shrimp things as being mantis shrimp, they are tiny though....about 0.5cm at the most! I have 2 one bright green and one kind of light green.

The star is a Asterina, it is white with green flecks on it...would have got a pic but it has vanished into the cheato that is being acclimitised

I had some shells in the rubble so put them into the main display as spare shells for the hermits when I get them.....well one has come alive! It looks like a dove snail...not sure it will make it though as it wasnt acclimitised....

If the start goes on your corals, grab it straight out - there are several kinds, some eat algae, others coral - I have several in my tank but luckily the algae eating ones :good:

:fish:

ps get those mantus into a holding tank whilst your tank is nearly empty - otherwise you will have an awful time trying to catch them later :good:

I caught them before they went near the tank along with a BIG flatworm and a spaghetti worm thing...there were 3 mantis in the end! The star is in the fuge with the cheato now so wont be near my corals!

more updates later today...as it my Birthday and Im off to browse some fish shops!....

Thanks for all the birthday messages! I had a great day and got loads of goodies!

The cats also gave me £50 to get some clown fish! (yes the cats give us presents too!)

So after testing the refractrometer on my brakish tank (found out the hydrometer has been spot on as well!) and some playing with blinding myself with the leds I was off to some fish shops!

I got some more sand and searched high and low for some egg crate.......failed on that one! After the fish shops we trudged to pick up some LR from a loacl guy who had loads spare. I only ended up getting 5kg as the shapes werent quite what I was after. I am planning on getting some more from a LFS tomorrow.
(I picked my rubble up on Sunday...even though I was seriously hung over!)

So here are the pics so far....

I had a mare trying to fit the leds!.....I removed the old ones but one had melted onto the bulbs! Finally sorted they sit between the old and new bulbs....not touching anything...fingers crossed!
A good tip if working on the hood when it is still attached to the tank and the tank has water in is to cover the open top with loads of clingfilm to prevent your screws from having a swim!...

Moving along nicely there :good:

You will love THE BOOK, it has been a great help to lots of us

Some nice pressies :good:

Looks good to me :good:
Just a little tip,
you should be able to get Filter Media Grid which is more or less the same thing as egg crate from any good garden centre that has pond fish :good:

I saw the filter grid stuff but it was all black...I have heard that the black stuff leaches some chemical into the tank....am I wrong?

I would have thought that it should be ok as it is meant for use in koi filter systems, and i am using it in my tank and have had no problems
