I've got a Sony A380 and it really struggles without the flash, but if I get the settings just right they come out lovely.

I don't bother with flash for shots of my tank and fish. I just put the ISO up to 1600, find a shutter speed that suits and put it down the the lowest F-number I can. I usually get more bad shots than good but they can always be deleted
