If you're talking about the hoplosternum, apparently they're a delicacy down in some areas... apparently commonly used in a curry! They seem too bony for my tastes though

Wow, never seen these before, I really like their looks, would not say they are ugly at all.
They're a niche type catfish. If someone owns them, they're often a favourite of theirs lol but a lot of people either don't like them because they're not "cute" or "pretty" or don't know about them.
For me, they're by far my favourite fish to keep, even above their smaller cousins the cories!.
Some grow big though too so tank size is a factor for some people. Mine is a smaller species, at 4 inches. Some species of them reach 12 inches even. And they're social so like having friends around. I've got 7 in with my goldfish lol they're goofy fish.
Megalechis, hoplosternum, leptohoplosternum, dianema, etc are all genus in this family

His name is Balloony because he's the most balloon looking fish I've ever seen. He's destined to stay as a pet and not be sold so people don't breed his abomination genes.
He be just a head with fins
It's such an awful gene and I don't want people breeding balloon cories
So he's stuck with me to live as he is and hope he doesn't have an early demise due to anatomical issues down the line. No babies for him, no cruel breeding from him.

Madtom. It spends most of it's time hiding in a burrow under some wood, making it all the cooler when I see it out swimming around.
