lady! chill! honest to goodness, the person andy has DIRECTLY called "chavvy" was one of his FRIENDS. it was a JOKE. and, if you haven't noticed, the issue had been dead since November and Page 5 until you started yelling at andy in January on Page 10. why the hell would you start an argument with a stranger over something they said 2 months ago? especially about something they said to their friend as a joke? was anyone specifically insulted besides paul? NO. has andy directly insulted you? NO. hell, we've not even seen your car yet! how could andy insult it or you?

look, you may be exercising your right to free speech, but you're also exercising your right to appear overly defensive and irrational. no one HERE ever said anything about your car being "chavvy" nor has anyone here called you a "chav". the only person who has given you that appellation is you.

let me summarize the issue as presented thus far: andy doesn't like body kits. andy doesn't like them because they tend to appear on cars that aren't actually very fast and they tend to be bought by people who don't have a fantastic grip on aerodynamics. andy thinks that these people are very annoying. you think that body kits are perfectly fine and think that andy should stuff it. andy thinks that he did stuff it about a month ago but that doesn't mean he's going to change his opinion, especially on illegal mods. you think he has an overly narrow perception of legality. andy thinks, "wait, why are we arguing over this?" you then say he's "a world class Essex boy" (? not familiar with that one) but that's ok if he's a doody-head (my interpretation), it's his right. and then i have a small aneurysm.

can we call it a day on this? we've all seen some sweet-*** body kits and we've all seen that picture of the minivan with the massive spoiler. thus we all know that each side of the great chav debate has a decent point. since we also all know that there's no accounting for taste, andy can keep his "spotty muppets" (good term) and you can keep your hobby. does that sound remotely like a deal?

If a thread is left visable no matter how old it is, someone new who reads it therefore has a right to comment. Or are new members only allowed to read posts added after they join??
Thats the reason you have to think before you post. Might not upset anyone at time of posting but people jion every day and do have access to read and comment as they see fit.
One persons view is not nessesarly be all and end all.

Post number #158. I see it so heres alink to it Post 158

Except the person not mentionin no name! Who said modified cars are chavvy and owned by spotty teenagers....some people forget that we were all young once and have to start the ladder at the bottom..except the spoit brats born with silver spoon in their mouths and therefor seem to need to put everything other people do or say down.

So I guess what Im saying in this, posts no matter how old can be read by anyone so therefor open for anybody to bring up a issue if they wish. Otherwise threads are gonna have to be deleted.

Sorry to go on about this when the thread is about showing your car but I think that everyone needs to calm down. What it doesn't need is people being nasty to each other.

Each person is entitled to their own opinion - correct. But why is it that Andy is not entitled to his which is he doesn't like cars that have had mods done to the outside but when Ice Maiden is expressing hers by being directly insulting to a person on the forum in a thread it is okay?

In your post Dan you say that new people join every day and they are entitled to read old posts. Again you are correct. But why would a member get upset about some thing that was said to somebody else in the forum as a JOKE three months before she even joined. If you read back through the thread you will see that the only person that has not made a complaint about what Andy said about his car was the person who the comment was aimed at.

Okay fair enough she didn't like what was said. Each to their own but she could have left it at that. You will notice in her most recent comments she has been directly insulting towards various people which isn't on. Nobody has implied that Ice Maiden was a chav apart from her.

I must ask a couple of things though because I am confused. What the hell does "Personally from the pics that others have shown me of you on here, u are a class one Essex boy....." mean? I'm sorry but did I miss the bit that said it was okay to slate people on here. I thought this was a friendly family forum. And also what does being a 36 year old educated woman have anything to do with anything?

I don't know where Ice Maiden lives - she doesn't appear to have blessed us with that information at present - but what she has to understand is that when everyday you see 17/18 year olds driving around with no road experience driving dangerously it is usually the ones that have modded the outside of their cars. They usually want to "race" you because they have got a "cool car man" (and yes they do speak like that). I live on a fairly busy road and the cars that cause the problems are usually the modded ones. Now I am NOT (get that NOT) saying that all modded drivers are like this it is just unfortunatley the minority that spoil it for the rest of the population. A bit like the Essex comment. I live in Essex and have for most of my life but I was born in London. Just because I live here doesn't mean that I am an Essex girl. In fact far from it. I don't go pubbing and clubbing nor do I dress in clothes that bearly cover my bits but I will still labelled that way because of where I live.

Just becasue we were all young once doesn't mean that we were all the same. World would be pretty boring if we were. And as for "born with a silver spoon in their mouth" do you not think that that comment is a little harsh. You have no idea of peoples background.

Anyway. Now i have that got off my chest (i've got a big chest :D ) I for one am getting bored of coming into this thread and seeing people slating each other for something that has been said to someone else because they didn't like a comment. It is like being back at school. Grow Up the lot of you. This thread is about showing people your car(s) and since not everybody likes the same thing you shouldn't throw your toys out of the pram if someone expresses their opinion if they don't like what you have bought/done/changed. There are a lot of things that I would change if a I could but I can't so I put up and shut up.

P.S I'm sorry its so long and for the spelling. I can't spell without Spellcheck :X !

I'm glad everyone found his comments so funny aimed directly at my car. Personally I didn't see it as a joke and still don't as it was actually quite insulting.

At the end of the day I would pick a golf over a MR2 any day.

then i apologize because i understood it to be a mutual joke between friends. i misinterpreted your responses to be teasing in kind.

frankly, i can't think of any cars pictured in these threads appeared either over- or underdone. Paul, your car did look quite nice and definitely wasn't over the top. the stock cars pictured by many were also attractive.

as an engineer, i'm biased towards cars reflecting the original intentions of the design teams. but as a former member of a Formula 1 team, i realize that the final product is very seldom the embodiment of a designer's dream. there are significant limitations imposed on designers by cost, functionality, and mass appeal. a balance must always be struck between what would be the perfect finish/material for a job and whether that level of perfection would actually add enough value to compensate the added cost. thus it is not uncommon to see design engineers drooling over a special modification of the very product those engineers originally produced.

of course, the term "improvement" rarely encompasses such charming elements are chain-link steering wheels or oversized spoilers constructed from raw sheet metal. sleekness, simplicity, efficiency, power... all are often adversely affected by cost and branding concerns. if you can modify your car's exterior such that it moves closer to the spirit of its design, then there is no shame because you have complimented the work that was already there. unfortunately, the balance that must be struck between old and new is not easily struck and thus many people loose sight of style in a blind pursuit of fashion. add in a certain youthful conviction that "if one is good, two must be better", and you get a lot of teenagers recklessly driving silly-looking cars. it isn't the inclination to mod that makes these cars silly, it's the inability to know when enough is enough and when one needs to do some basic research into aerodynamics and physics.

--EDIT--
Paul, i found the comments about your modifications funny because they were so over the top. unless i had made careful study of that specific model, i would have never guessed why yours looks a bit smarter than average. i'd figure out that Dan fiddled with his front bumper and runners in a heartbeat, but that's only because i'm in love with the original boxier lines of the BMW convertible (especially the mid-80s models; so vintage). Dan's mod does imply that he's made engine modifications and looks "sportier"; no real shame there because i'm sure that he has. There's a certain unbalance to the level of chrome detailing, but the quick solution for that is to add more chrome! it's not like either of you has big vinyl stickers pasted all over the sides or silly slogans pasted across the rear. (on the way to the last Formula competition, the boys had great fun defeating some p.o.s. sporting "Don't Drift and Drive". we were driving a 15-passenger van towing a trailer full of welding equipment.) thus to accuse your vehicle of being tacky or chavvy and to accuse you of displaying tendencies towards poor taste isn't something i can take seriously.

however, the instant you paste stupid slogans across your rear window, i am going to mock you until they rot back off again.

Dan re your post (too much to quote)

Bit in Red - no it wasn't aimed at you. It was something someone else said. I didn't "get" the comment and genuinely wanted to know what it meant.

Bit in Blue - Not a complex just meant that you didn't know about peoples background thats all.

As for whether you are a bad person because you have modded your car/added a stereo etc no that doesn't make you one. All I meant by that point is that as with everything in life it is the minority that causes problems and as a result the whole hobby is tarred with the same brush. It is the same with any hobby or group. As I said earlier just look at the name that Essex girls have. Not every female that lives in Essex is one but you are tarred with the brush anyway.

Paul - at the risk of starting an argument (and i'm really sorry if you take this the wrong way) but if you were upset/offended by a comment that was made why didn't you mention it at the time so the whole situation could be sorted out then? It's a shame really because if you had then this would have all been sorted out and dealt with by now.

Hopefully this can all get sorted out and people will be able to post pictures of their cars again.

I'm glad everyone found his comments so funny aimed directly at my car. Personally I didn't see it as a joke and still don't as it was actually quite insulting.

If you took offence, I apologise, though the smilies made it perfectly clear there was no malice in there.

As to the second comment...that's your view and in the context damn close to flaming, but if you want a slower car then that's your choice.

lmao.....I have just been reading these comments......talk about going ott.....

I am Essex born and bred...but not an "Essex Girl" so to speak...

Nina, my comment was based on the fact that it annoys me that people label others, just cos they modify their cars.....some of these kids spend every penny that they earn on their cars and insurance.....why should they be slated for it, surely its good that they do that rather than spend it all on drink and drugs???

If my opinions have upset nyone then I apologise......but sometimes people are to blinkered in what they think...

Ok, Im in the Uk but we own two American Cars (Maybe 3 soon) and a shopping trolley....lol

So this is my everyday car (shopping trolley). Its a Skoda Octavia vRS 1.8 Turbo petrol 180bhp car
33190.jpg

(Well its something like this one....and thats not me...lol)

Then we get to my little runabout/project.......

Its a Pontiac Fiero GT....... And used to have a girly 2.8 V6 engine in it..... My husband has spent many hours(read as nearly a year) bolting in a 5.7L Chevy V8 which has 400bhp and 450lbft of torque :hey:
Here's a pic of the car....and the engine.....

Donna that firebid is absolutely spectacular. Can you tell us any more about it? I'm a big fan of the cars (I've got a firebird tattoo if that's any measure...) and I've suffered to only ever seeing 4 in real life :( I'm into the typical 79 bandit model but there are no models I dislike.

hi fella, Donna's other half here,

my name is Fin..

Thanks for the words about the Trans Am. Its fitted with a 4 speed auto box and some nice lazy long gears. If ya reved it out in 4th the gearing would take her upto 189mph...lol but I dont think she has quite enough power to get that high...Should top 150mph but I ant that brave. In second gear the car will do 94mph

Some facts about owning a classic Yank.....

My car cost £1800 sure Ive spend some money on her ..its a 20 year old car at the end of the day. nice condition ones can be had for £2500+

On a 70mph motorway run is will do 28mpg

Im 30years old and for me and the wife...Insurance is £195 fully camp...lol

At 70mph its just doing 2000ish rpm

ITS VERY LOUD 95db at 1500rpm....but ya get away with it coz its a v8 sound :D

In the dry it will go around a corner faster that you would belive....but its interesting how the passengers s### them selves...lol

In the Wet a nissan Micra will beat ya off the line.....the car just spins the wheels. Also in the wet 70+mph wheelspin can be a problem

@ 2000rpm the New motor makes near 200bhp and 300Lbft of torque.

A brand new 290bhp 337lbft GM Goodwench 5.7 V8 has just cost me £1200..... Cheap as Chips

BUT THE BEST THING ABOUT OWNING A YANK CAR IS

The Show's, The people in the clubs, and the way of life that seems to come with the car

Have a look at a few of the videos Ive made of the car

My old 5.0 starting for the first time after a rebuild

WHat's funny is you don't even see Trans AM's like that over here in the States in the decent condition anymore. Every 3rd gen F-body left is rusted out beyond recognition or sitting on blocks somewhere. Only time you see decent ones are at the shows int he summer time.

I had a GTA in highschool. Basically same car but with the 5.7L in it. Friend of mine had a Firebird Formula 350 which was the same thing mechanically with the 5.7L but without the ground effects of the trans am. Pretty rare car. These car handled incredibly.

At the end of High School i made the change over to Mustangs and haven't looked back. Nothing against F-body's, I just want to try a Mustang and liked it a little bit more. Ive owned 6 since

Santa pod is an awesome day out....and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in cars.........seen some very interesting results on the quarter mile there in the last year!

A day at the track is definitely a good time. It's one of my fave things to do in the summer time. I compete in amature competition regularly which makes it an added bonus.

Nothing beats walking around in the pit or staging lanes talking to other people about cars. It usually weeds out the BS guys claiming they run rediculous times, because they actually have to prove it by running that time. It just is a lot more enjoyable this way.

Here's a shot of my car last time out at New England Dragway last summer. Mine is the black one while my friend's is the red one. I was running 13.5-13.8's that day on what was basically a stock motor at the time with a few mods.

(Its Fin again..lol...me wife will be back to talk about fish soon)

The american car club scean is very big in the UK. We had a Summer Show last year where 10,000 cars turned up to billing. A truly amazing weekend.

Have a look at our local car meet

More pictures can be found in the gallery on our local club web site

Now Ive got nothing against Jap and Euro Cars...Each to there own on that.... and each to there own on the stylin of there car...I mean how can I talk with a screaming chickin on me hood(sorry Bonnnet to us UKers. Its all just modern day Hot-roding, and the custom car cults have been around since the end of WWII and will continue until the day we have to all drive electric cars...lol.

I just like to be different. I like it when a kids jaw drops to the floor when ya drive by... AND THERE ANT NO BETTER SOUND THAN A PUSH ROD V8...

The New 5.7 engine gets fittted in my TA next week so looking forward to that...

Anyway back over to me wife now....

Cheers and good chating with ya
