Sal Goes Rio With A Bit Of Vision

Why add ammonia??

With that plant list you'll silent cycle that tank.

I haven't got those plants yet. Those are the ones I'd like to add after the cycling. I have never done a silent cycle, but feel confident about 'normal' fish-less cycling hence I chose that option.

just a suggestion...it's just in the planted section we rarely cycle our filters this way. It could have been an interesting thing to try.

I haven't used a bottle of ammonia for 5 years now. It's so much easier doing a silent cycle. Have you added any mature media as well?

Oh, did I start my journal in the wrong section? I thought as long as you plan on aquascaping it would be fine here  Where else should it go? Can it be moved?

I haven't added any mature media. I like a fresh start. For example the foam of the current internals in the 4fter are starting to get really manky as I had bought those filters used already. Plus the filters need to keep the fish going while the two Rios are setting up, so I'd rather have my 100% stable, mature water parameters there and I know they are safe. I can keep them happy there for the next weeks while I cycle the new externals and once they are safe I can just transfer them knowing they will be fine. And I am addicted to testing. I love testing daily, so fish-less cycling is actually a fun hobby

Lmao, yeah how dare you post here and be adding ammonia.

Tanks looking great Sal, really looking forward to it being planted.

 no you can start a journal in any section...

I'll let you into a secret, i hate fishless cycling.

Just a clearer picture now that the dust has settled. I am hoping to hide the heater and filter inlet with a nice background plant.

BTW, I still have one nice piece of mopani in the other tank. I might add this later to make a combo of the current set-up and minnnt's suggestion :hey:

I am really really excited to see this planted up! looks like it has heaps of potential!

I'm commiting a sin! :look:

Phew! Well some hate it, some love it. I love my daily testing and tubes and adding stuff :fun:

Thanks :)

And guess what! This is the first time I have managed a multi-quote. Never worked out how. Please let it work, pleeeease!!!

It worked! *pats own back*

That's not what he meant! he meant, why phaff with ammonia and testing and blah blah when you could just buy all the plants, plant it up, add a small number of fish and off you go. :good:

however, I understand that it takes a certain amount of confidence to do that, and sometimes you feel more confident sticking with what you know :)

:kana: woohoo! lol

lol You just want to pretend to be a scientist don't ya? You need a lab coat to keep for dress up :fun:

I did it again! The multiquote :hyper:

Sounds too much for me, I would worry too much about killing my fish.

He he he, who says I haven't got one? :hey: I really take great pleasure in testing. Yesterday I spent ages checking all my tanks, even though I know all will come back perfect. It's just so satisfying when the tube turns yellow / blue / orange whatever. And now it is satisfying me seeing the ammonia in the Rio turn green. Aaaah, so much fun

BTW, Dora is going to be here tomorrow afternoon! YAY! Still trying to work out which rock or slate to use. Substrate and background definitely black, maybe purple slate, maybe something completely different.

Yeah go crazy on the other something unique but still eye-catching, what a challenge :)

I have just seen some Quartz at my LFS. Very nice pieces, different colouring some blue some grey. Would something like this be ok in a tank? Would probably look good with the black on black. Am thinking of building two smaller rock piles and then just planting. Yes? No?
