Rorie's Fish House Project

So sorry mate

. Hope you can get everything dried out ok.

How could this happen?! Is the stand not level, or did the shelf bend or something? You had styrofoam under all your tanks, didn't you?

Yeh. I am not too sure. One thought is that the heater came unstuck and the direct heat could have caused it....maybe.... the tank, room and water were all cold, put the heaters on and a 200W heater in the tank to help it along....maybe that was the problem. Other than that i don't know :(

Oh man, you're having a run of back luck bud, so sorry :/

Oh well, only one way for things to go! :)

Sorry to hear about the tank. I guess with a project of that size it's impossible for everything to go right. I'm sure it'll be well worth it when everything's sorted out. :good:

The video is ready!! I dont think its the most exciting, but i have tried to explain and show everything the best i can for those who are looking for ideas or just curious haha. Hope its not too boring!....

BOOOOOO!

I got home to find my 3 foot tank cracked and TOTALLY empty! The ground is flooded, insulation soaked, its wicked its way up my 6 inch floor joists and soaked the floor boards of the games room! This is why we do these games outside where it doesn't really matter. I'm just annoyed that my perfectly sized tank is a write off! Cracked from corner to corner.
The two/three reasons for tank cracking I have witnessed (luckily not mine) are:

- Placing tank directly on a surface, without a protective "sheet" underneath, and getting a tiny stone trapped underneath. After a few months the bottom pane cracked and water seeped out very slowly. Tank was repaired by siliconing another sheet of glass on top of cracked pane. Tank was then placed on a sheet of polystyrene and was fine. Owner wasn't really to know as they bought the setup from small adds in local paper for not very much and just placed it on a unit in lounge.

- Placing tank on furniture (and floor) not designed to take the weight. In this case the furniture (set of drawers or floor) warped twisting the base of the tank causing the silicon to "tear" and leak on the corners. Fixed by re-siliconing and placing on a proper homemade unit that could take the weight. That was over 15 years ago and my mate still has the tank.

- Oh and the third I remember....whilst vacuuming, pull vacuum cleaner back and put handle through front of tank...releasing fish onto carpet...

Just got to watch the video, all very cool! Hopefully the dehumidifier will sort some of your problems but at that rate it's going to be needing emptied very frequently lol.

:grr: :hey: Nice accent.

That's why I married a Scot lol

It is not scottish english though! Good explanation!

I think this may be a punctuation problem haha, caution should always be used when placing those two words directly next to each other ;)

Sorry for the confusion! I meant that your british accent doesn't sound scottish. I have worked with several scottish people and your english is more what we would call ABE (general civilised english)which means that you don't have a strong regional accent.

haha, its funny as some people think i sound really scottish (rrrrrrolling the 'r's) where as others think i have a dulled down scottish accent. It was popular when i lived in Sweden :p

The dehumidifier will help with the incredible humidity....but thats because i don't have any lids on yet!

I have been thinking about it, and i think the reason the tank cracked is the framing flexed in the middle!! So plan for tomorrow is to buy some 3x2 and put a frame on top similar to what i have for the RO system. That way the wood will need to flex prior to the frame flexing. HOPEFULLY that will work!

Only worry is the other frame (with my storage tank) but i did put loads of wood under, so hopefully that'll stop it flexing enough

I have now moved my Odesa Barbs, Corys, Cardinal Tetras and Bolivian Rams. I'll build my frames tomorrow and move the cubes which will hold my discus :)
