£3.99 is not bad including the postage
, you will have to let us know if it makes a difference to the noise levels rob as there is a few of use using these skimmers on this forum now and i would be interested in the results myself as i have the mc 500 which run on more or less the same type of pump
hi all,
so i've fitted the damper kit to the mce 600.
kit consists of 2 black strips of rubber and 2 red rubber bits for inside the pump.
have to say i was a bit shocked at first. all i got was a small envelope through the post with a tiny little bag with 4 items inside.
having realised what it was, i dragged the skimmer out of the sump (not an easy task as these things are pretty bulky and the edges of my sump are quite high up inside the cabinet!)
anyways having got it out (whilst pouring a load of water over myself
) i eased the pump out of the skimmer.
straight away i saw that the pump already had two of the rubber flanges along its base.
then when i took apart the pump it had the two red rubber bits in as well!
guess the previous owner had added the damper kit already.
Unperturbed i replaced the older red bits with the newer ones. (these red bits appear to hold the shaft of the pump in place and stop it moving about)
instead of replacing the rubber flanges on the outside of the pump, i noticed that there were grooves on the sides of the pump as well as the base so added a new strip to each of the sides.
put it all back together, and now there is just a normal humm!!! problem sorted!
if you have the same problems with your skimmers, its worth while having a look first to see if the red bits have been upgraded already (i think they are as standard on the newer versions).
i think the noise was purely coming from the pump vibrating against the inside of the skimmer. The rubber flanges solve that problem.
These could probably be easily made if you have access to any strips of rubber, rather than going through Deltec.
I think nearly 4 quid for a few bits of rubber is a bit cheeky to be honest!
