Rob's 3X2X2

I was just going to suggest the plastic drinks bottle then you mentioned it. People use them for spot feeding Sun Corals so I am sure they will be fine for feeding fungias.

what do you spot feed zoas with?

I spot feed mine cyclopeeze mixed with tankwater with a small pipette and it makes them grow really fast although some types of zoas seem to feed more readily than others.Just remember to kill the flow when your doing it.

cool, cheers, thats ok the vortech has a feeding mode where it shuts off for 10 mins then goes back to what it was doing.

just checked a few of my stats as i had a spare few moments:

Phosphate: 0
Nitrate: 5
Calcium: 420

not too bad for a newish setup. :good:

Nitrate should go down as the new rock and the sand beds mature.
was expecting it to be higher considering i've increased the feeds to twice every single day from once every couple of days in the nano.

was worried the calcium levels would be getting depleted by the LPS and SPS cause of the higher wattage of light and the smaller water changes i'm doing, but so far it seems ok.
its good cause i can't really afford a calcium reactor this month!

I feed just mysis/brine/krill/etc, same frozen foods I give my tank. If you have voracious fish that like to steal from corals, you can also feed right before or right after lights out... Get those fish sleepin and let the corals eat :)

You get zoas to take the above  Are you mashing them up? Or are you talking about your corals in general?

I've also read lots of places that artemia are not a good coral food as they are lacking in nutrition.

Hi all! Since Rob has been raving about this website, I decided to have a look and have become similarly hooked reading some of your journals - honestly some of you have had more emotional moments than I've seen in any soap!

So now i've joined too and thought I would say hello to you all and introduce myself! I'm Rob's wife and got into the weird and wonderful world of marines when we got our nano. When Rob asked me recently about getting a bigger Marine tank instead of the 5 foot tropical tank we had (now with Trod!), I was very excited - not about getting some space back (that was a bonus!) but because I had wanted a bigger marine tank for ages! So now we have our new tank and can argue about what corals and fish to put into it. Though actually we don't argue about that too much - more about the amount we want to spend!

Rob has already pointed out that I do tend to like the corals and fish that turn out to be mega bucks. But to be fair Bob, that Fox Coral was gorgeous - though admittedly not £150 goreous!

Yup, I just barely spray them with a turkey baster full of the above... Works out great.

Hi Sophilene and :hi: aboard

Tank doing well :good: Thank you

Its funny how us girls always seem to like the expensive stuff isn't it

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

Welcome Sophilene :hi:

This will certainly add some interest to the journal

From pictures I have seen, I would like a fox coral too, what size was the one you looked at??

There were two in the shop - one really big one in a display tank that was probably about the size of a football, then there was a smaller one which was about tennis ball size. It was the smaller one that was £150! Think I'm going to have to hope we see a frag of one sometime that doesn't break the bank. Apparently they're quite rare though as you only really see them when people break down their tanks or frag them?? never mind, I'll just  from a distance!

As Trod says, it's definitely a girl thing to go for the most expensive things!

As I read that I was really hoping you were going to say that the football size one was £150.

It has been on my like / want list for a few months now. I am going to have to watch out for a frag too.

It is definately a girl thing, Fish, Coral, Diamonds

Oh well, bang goes my get one of each different Caryophylliidae genus

hi rob i have just read your entire journal as found it quite interesting. the tank seems to be cming on a treat.

do you have a coral stockings list in mind or is it going to be more of a 'buy on instinct' thing dependant on what is available in your lfs?

ps. welcome sophilene
