do you have a coral stockings list in mind or is it going to be more of a 'buy on instinct' thing dependant on what is available in your lfs?

Hi,
yeah the tank is getting there. sump is filling up with pods and things nicely, thankfully all the fish seem to be doing well, i really do feel for everyone who is losing their fish at the moment (there most be something in the air as loads of the forum members are having problems) touch wood i might get away with it!

as for corals, i think it will be a 'get it if i like it' scenario.
there are one or two items i would really love:
a green fungia
a green bubble coral
a maxima clam.

apart from these i'd like some more LPS like another hammer (maybe a plating one rather than a branching like i've already got), scolly, acan, blastos etc......
Not an avid fan of SPS, though i would like a green plating montipora and some nice encrusting ones. Mail Order Corals has one called a 'superman' that is purple that would be an interesting addition.

i don't really want to fill the tank up too much, as i've already got some lovely examples of corals ('super frogspawn' and a flourescent green candy cane to name two) that i would like to get to huge proportions to enable me to frag them regularly, so obviously they'll need the space to do this.

i'm not one for buying large corals, preferring to buy frags with two or three heads, and then grow them on. so i need to keep in mind the sizes of the corals i have/buy so that they don't end up touching and killing one another!

have to say i'm feeling like crap this morning!
think its man flu (a bad cold in other words), but sitting here at work just isn't where i want to be!

am waiting for a delivery from coral culture, which hopefully will include a load of piping odds and ends. These will enable me to (fingers crossed) make my pipes and sump system much quieter!
the outlet from the skimmer is exceptionally noisy so i intend to use some 40mm pipe to direct the water to where i want it. have also got a ball valve for the main display return pipe. Never put one in in the first instance but the level in the weir is too high and causing the durso to be very noisy. hopefully by being able to regulate the flow back to the tank with the ball valve i should be able to get the level adjusted to decrease the noise.

also have an issue with the outlet pipe going too far down into my sump, which is i think is causing the whooshing of air every now and again.

the link below has some interesting information in it regarding dursos (the FAQ section especially) :good:

Instead of the ball valve that will restrict the flow from the pump, have you considered a T piece instead with a second piece of pipe returning to somewhere in the sump??

I have seen this on a few sump designs and it seems to work, it may also by not restricting the pump, prolong its life.

thats a better idea tina, id run a phos reactor off it. Restricting the flow on a pump too much can seriously reduce its life.

mmm thats a good idea. shame the piping is in the delivery van and i wanted to get it sorted this weekend!

these is no where around me that sells the right sort of piping so i have to order it all online!
i don't think i need to make much adjustment to the flow rate, just needs backing off a bit.

pretty sure i haven't got a t piece lying around.

Cant you do it with flexi pipe and a t-piece from B&Q. Some of their marley stuff is food grade.

mmm thats true as i've got flexi pipe going from the pump into the pvc pipe. so i guess i could have a branch off of it before it gets to the join with the pvc.

What an awesome idea and less heat exchange!!! :good: {No extra pump needed to run phos reactor ect}:hey: I think i might just use this idea myself in my new build

yeah though at the moment i don't have a reactor (i put the rowaphos in the skimmer), but if i put the T-Piece i'll always have the option of just plumbing it in really easy.

the flexi pipe i've got is eheim 16/22. do they do t-pieces and valves to match?

would just save me a trip to B&Q which is around 30mins drive away. LFS is on the way home from work!

Rob if you need anything from B&Q I can get it for you and bring it over (B&Q is like 1 min from me!)

cheers amie, i'll bear that in mind.
i'll see what i can get in the LFS, and if needs be i'll give you a ring later.

i have 22mm pipe going into 16/22 flexi off my return. It took a lot of hot water, pushing it and swearing to get it on though. Then a jubilee clip to make doubly sure it doesnt slip off

god you lot are good aren't ya!

i now have a silent running tank!

yippppeeeee!
would take a pic of what i've done but i've lost the camera at the moment.

the pump in the skimmer is still vibrating something chronic, so gonna have a look at that now.
