Also algae clean up every week:

The cories think they'll find stirred up goodies every time I work in the tank lol

I have random fissidens moss growing on the wood in this tank. I collected this wood wild, so it's crazy to get some cool growth of something native on it.

And hoplisoma loxozonum from my south american tank just because they're adorable and not always easy to photograph

A hybrid juvenile pleco from the south american tank riding on the sagittaria in the flow, crazy how well they stay on stuff

I really like how that Heternanthera zostifolia is looking in your tank. I am going to have to give that plant a try.
It's a fantastic plant, though it's usually marketed as a foreground plant, most sources state it stays short, but nahhhh it will grow as tall as it wants. I've seen people turn it into a carpet by continuously keeping it trimmed relatively short. I just let it grow as it wants. It sends out branches really well. It can get leggy if lighting isn't great though.

I sell a bag of it every 2 weeks when I trim it. It grows really fast.

And i know I already posted a photo, but I got a photo tonight of more of the fish out and about lol

This one is named Fish because she has a fish shaped marking on her side.

I always love your fish & tank pics! I've been mostly MIA for NFL football (but my team won!)

So, no breeding apisto action yet? They both look ready to go! I wonder what their problem is...Moody little fish. I know you feed them well & change lots of water. *shrug* hopefully soon. They'll be a lot of fun when they get around to breeding. Cichlids are different than other fish what with parent care, etc.

Nothing yet, but they also don't seem to want to be a pair. Kinda just keep to their own sides of the tank. Male may try to impress the female but female chases him off.

There's room for both, so it's not a huge deal if they don't want to breed together. That's always just a bonus.

They at least cohabit without any significant violence. Maybe a little chase or tail swat here and there and that's the extent of it. That's a win enough for me. If they showed signs of wanting to pair, perhaps in the future I could separate them to a breeding setup and let them breed there, but for time being they don't seem interested and I won't force them

Nah, just let them figure it if they're going to. Trying to force them will not help them be a good pair or parents. But I'm still hoping they get on the program before too long. Fingers crossed!

Just enjoy them as the pretty fish they are & their different behaviors from many other fish. I love that a pair can look so different from each other, not like schooly fish that look fat girly or slim male-ish...not that that's a bad or boring thing...just not the cichlid way lol.

I keep mine in totes so that when I clean them, water doesn't spill on my floor. And also easier for me to monitor potential leaks (no leaks yet!)

Majestic fishies :hey:
Considering how small he was when I caught him out of the river here!

I caught him July 2020, he was so tiny. I was catching tadpoles and collecting plants outside and netted a baby goldfish accidentally. They breed wild here, and are invasive, so it wasn't ethical for me to throw him back. He's my big baby now

This is where I caught him, this is a small river that leads into the main channel of the Detroit River.
