And of course, here's the pair of gourami i got in the store lol

Looks exactly like the pair I used to have! The male was a vicious little bugger but that was down to fishkeeper error 🤦‍♂️ cubetanks..
I never gave the male a name since he quickly went back, but the female stayed and earned the name Big Bertha 😂
I think I've had a cory by that name before!!!

He even gets a dark forehead when he's fired up and moody

The female is more wary of people, she hides more when I come near, the male seems more bold. He's always out foraging and picking at the biofilm growing on the maple sticks lol

Most of the gourami nest got eaten by someone, either the parents or perhaps the trigonopoma. I had collected what was left into a baggy to float in my cory nursery for the time being with not a lot of hope of success, the nest was broken up after all and most gourami and betta eggs and young fry tend to be kept inside the nest for the first few days until they become free swimming.

That said, 17 hatched from what I could salvage and to my surprise, they're starting to swim on their own. Shall see how this goes. I'm not expecting success given the circumstances lol

So tiny

So tiny! What will you feed them?
Infusoria for first little while and I've got vinegar eel cultures too, once bigger they'll be on dry foods.

I bred chuna, and if they are swimming, they can make it. I only raised a couple of dozen, and got mostly males, but I had them all over the fishroom and they were great little fish. They are really beautiful.

They aren't the fastest growers, but are slow and steady.

3 days? I think you bought healthy fish.

Yep they spawned on the 3rd day after buying them in their quarantine tank lol

I've not seen any health issue with them or the trigonopoma, so looking like they should fast track through QT no issues. No string poops, no ich, no fuzz, nothing. Behaviour is good. The skinny trigonopoma are gaining weight fast. With luck, it should only be another week or so before they can join the main tank.

I don't have room to keep any of these guys, so whatever makes it to selling size will be sold. Either way, I've raised sparkling gourami before by the dozens, which are way tinier. I'm not expecting much more difficulty in comparison. I had so much sparkling gourami fry in the past that i may have over supplied the market here for awhile 🤣🤣🤣

Wonderful photos, especially the fry-under-the leaf. That's worthy of the cover of a book about anabantoids. Ah...remember books?
