Luc's First Planted Tank

Love the shrimplets dude!

Are you going to sell them back to the LFS that you got the original parents from?

LFS around me never stock any good shrimp... Oh well...

Cheers...

It's staggering, how much this tank has improved since the start.
It looks amazing now!

I love the shrimplets!

Well done!

Of course no, I love the shrimplets so much, haaa... May be later when I got too much in the tank then I might consider selling it of, but for now I really enjoy keeping them, they are just too cute. ;)

I have caught 9 shrimplets and put them into the nano tank next to the 2-feet tank, there are still some shrimplets in the 2-feet tank. They grow up a lot, as compared to the new-born shrimplets they look big... :)

I noticed some very small shrimplets in the 2-feet tank last night where I was so confused as I thought I have no male in that tank and never noticed any females (besides the new one just hatched the eggs 2 weeks ago) are carrying eggs...

A question guys, could the "very" small size shrimplets are from the same batch as the bigger shrimplets, just that they are growing too slowly? The bigger one i think is about 1 cm; the small one is about 5mm or smaller. Guys with experience in shrimps please give me some ideas on this ... :)

Is the larger ( 1cm ) shrimplet in the two-footer? And are the smaller ( 5mm ) shrimplets in the nano?

They do vary in size as they grow. It can be hard to tell if there are more than one lot born near each other, the males do remain smaller than the females. But from what you say its likely that the smaller ones are from a different batch. The males are much less colourful than the females and have an almost triangular shape behind the legs. The other thing is that females with eggs hide a lot more than those without, so in a big tank you might not have seen her with the eggs. Your tank looks great and the shrimplets have excellent colour, the ones in the pic are female I would expect.

Thank you guys for the reply...

The 1 cm shrimplet and 5 mm shrimplet were in the 2-feet tank, I have moved 11 shrimplets from the 2-feet tank into the nano tank. Out of 11 about 2 to 3 are smaller size. I think they are from the same batch just that they are growing in a different pace only.

I still don't think I have a male in my tanks as all are quite red in colour especially the one stays the longest time there. Need some time to observe, find this is interesting... :)

The 2 females in the nano tank have hatched the eggs and everything is alright... shrimplets are here and there but comparing to the first batch shrimplets, these are a lot smaller...

The shrimplets are growing in a very fast pace, within about 2 weeks time they are now about 1 cm plus. Amazing!

I have questions here, roughly how many shrimplets would be hatched in each eggs carrying process? I have seen 1 or 2 eggs left in the legs after the hatching, what are those?

At last I have transfered 12 shrimplets into the nano tank and I don't think there are anymore shrimplets left in the 2-feet tank.

They are growing rapidly.

I fed them cucumber last night... :)

Just took some pics last night and have 2 here to share.

Really lovely pictures as usual.
For the shrimp question, I have counted about 35 eggs that I could see in a picture I took and there are lots more behind those this was a small first time mother. The number varies depending on the age and size of the mother and other factors like food etc. I have seen a few eggs left over after the hatching; I assume that the eggs were infertile or just failed to hatch. The mothers shake them off eventually they even poke at them with their legs to remove them.

I really cant believe thats a 2 foot tank haha!

It looks soo much bigger! :)

I wanna make my 2 footer like this...

Love the pics Luc and love the Shrimpys !

Richie !

Thank you Liam. Thank you for the info too. :)
I love your tank and shrimps too... I will try to plant some mosses later... :)

Thank you R1ch13. :)
Hope to see your tank too... ;)
And I believe you could do better... :)

Found another shrimplet in the 2-feet tank and caught it and put it into the nano tank. Trimmed the plants in the 2-feet tank and redistributed the lighting. :)

Thinking of rescape the tank again, but need to think of it first... ideas are welcome. :)

Looks like a Echinodorus uruguayensis, Echinodorus augustifolius, or a long-leafed crypt to me, but I'm leaning more towards an Echinodorus species.

IMGP1241A.jpg

This plant looks like Nuphar japonica to me.

IMGP1240A.jpg

The lotus looks like either the green variety of Nymphaea lotus, or Nymphaea stellata. The little dark green plants look like Sagittaria species to me, but I'm not quite sure. I don't grow Sagittaria.

Sorry Luc, that's the best I can do with limited time. The tanks look great by the way and the growth is lovely. Congrats on the Shrimplets! That's exactly how I felt about my Cherry barb and platy fry. It's great seeing the babies, but to raise them to adulthood gives you a great sense of satisfaction.

llj :)

Thank you llj, btw I have got the name for the plants from the help of some forumers in another forum.

The first plant is Hygrophila Corymbosa "Angustifolia".

Second plant is Nuphar Japonica.

Third pic: the lotus is green tiger lotus and the other plant is Ludwigia Repens.

Thank you so much on the help ya...

The Ludwigia Repens is a new plant in my tank, I found that it need high lighting in order to grow. I planted some under the green tiger lotus and they all melted. But it is an awesome plant, I quite like its leaf shape and the colour (dark green on top and red at bottom).

After the trimming yesterday, I think I really need a major rescape as now the tank is lousy to me. But I need some time to gather some stuff in order to start the replanting... :)

Will update you guys... comment and suggestion is always welcome... :)

I have bought a drift wood last night, it will be used in the new aquascaping. Thinking of planting some moss on it...

Will post some pics of the wood later.
