At Petsmart I saw a good 7 Bala in one tank.

And I've seen dozens of oscars in one tank at the LFS too... In a 24 inch tank.  That's not part of the equation....

And "7" is hardly a proper shoal or ANY fish.  A proper shoal would really be about a dozen plus.

It's still a fish-mill, they're still locked in a smaller tank, and sorry for not quoting, but y'all know what I mean

Exactly.

Bala sharks are practically never kept properly long term in aquaria...

right but then you have to question keeping fish in general thers no way you can do it right, you can try to get the enviroment and try to get them to thrive but its never the same as there natural habititat.

BTW... just want to mention that I absolutely adore the way that bala sharks look.... so I get why people want to keep them.  They just aren't appropriate for hobby tanks... they should be left to the professionals in regional aquariums.

Of course... keeping fish in a box isn't 'natural'.  But, there are ways to do it that allows for some semblance of natural behavior (like fast swimming) and there are ways that just don't work.   Keeping a bala shark in even a 6 foot tank is like keeping a single gazelle in a 12'x3' cage.

Its for that reason that I am a big proponent for keeping SMALL fish, even in a big tank.

yup i think thats the best way to go too but even thats pushing sometimes just the way fishkeeping works of course.

Oh man and then in comparison with marine fish, I mean the smallest marine fish need a big tank.
Yeah I guess fishkeeping, has its cons and pros

There are trade-offs in the trade, certainly.  But, its about minimizing them, I think.

Do y'all think it is okay to move things around in your'e aquariums, I do this, well because I just think the fish get bored or something?

yup and especially with marine fish i even think keeping it in an actual aquarium is pushing it but one at your home i just dont agree with it.
